Open1602 0.3.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 28 Oct 19:24
3f985f0

What's new in 0.3.1

Changes since 0.3.0, most of them from
the second round of player feedback.

New

  • News of other players' wars: the status bar reports when two other players go to war or make
peace, and the help line over a partner's coat of arms in the diplomacy window names whom that
partner is at war with. A switch in the display window turns the news off.
  • Fertility view: while a field or plantation is in the build tool, the island under the mouse
shows green where its crop grows and red where it does not. Ctrl + B shows the same for a selected
farm, and the display window can switch the automatic view off.
  • Ship trade: computer players offer spare ships for sale, and a computer that has lost all its
ships buys one on offer. With the new setting "Computers buy ships" (on by default) they also
buy ships that players at peace offer for at most the shipyard's price.
  • New player colours: magenta and dark grey replace light blue and lime, which were too close
    to blue, teal and green.
  • Groups (Ctrl + number) are kept in the savegame and come back after loading.

Fixes

  • Walkers and carts move their legs at every frame rate and zoom level.
  • The fire brigade puts out a fire from the road in front of the building instead of vanishing
    into it.
  • The water mill's wheel turns in the river instead of standing on land.
  • F at a forester plants the trees' variants mixed, as when planting by hand.
  • The tab titles in the F1 key overview now fit neatly inside their tabs, and the selected page is
    highlighted in yellow.

Open1602 0.3.1, built from 3f985f0.

Open1602 needs the data of an installed Anno 1602 (the GOG edition, the Königsedition or
the History Edition); the packages hold only the engine. On its first start it looks for
the installation and, when it finds none, asks for its folder.

Platform Package Start
Windows 10/11 (64-bit) Open1602-0.3.1-windows-x64.zip unpack, start open1602.exe
macOS 11 or newer (Apple silicon and Intel) Open1602-0.3.1-macos-universal.zip unpack, right click Open1602.app > Open (the app is not notarised)
Linux x86-64 (glibc 2.39+: Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 13, Fedora 40, Arch) Open1602-0.3.1-linux-x64.tar.gz unpack, start bin/open1602

@github-actions github-actions released this 28 Oct 12:38
56ff8af

What's new in 0.3.0

Changes since 0.2.0, many of them from
the feedback of players on Windows.

New

  • Trade cart: requested in the city window, it drives on land between cities, trades and runs
routes picked on the map; it has its own window and figure, and soldiers can attack it.
  • City gates can be closed (G); computer soldiers find their way into a walled city.
  • Plant all farm fields of a farm at once (F).
  • History Edition controls: its build mode, shortcuts for the next city, rotating back, the
frame rate and the coordinates, F1 help pages, soldiers grouped by kind and unit identification.

Computer opponents and pirates

  • A computer answers a ship that is about to found a city on its island.
  • Computer soldiers pass over an enemy city with nothing left to attack; a computer without a free
    island no longer gets stuck.
  • A computer's ship under the white flag gets jobs again after the pirates plundered it.
  • Pirates spare surrendered ships, and the pirate nest offers its goods every 42 seconds, as in the
    original.

Fixes

  • The reveal setting "Nothing" also hides the towns other players found.
  • A palisade no longer replaces a stone wall; stone walls, houses and piers can be dragged as in
the original, piers along a line.
  • Soldiers stop their attack animation after a fight, no longer stack on one tile, and troops on
every island count for the mood.
  • Messages lead to the right place and show their icons and rivals in the original's colours; the
    delay of sounds is gone.
  • Flags, roaming warriors, the forester's loop and the monument in the build menu as in the
original; a refusal to build names the original setting behind it.

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Oct 15:32
1f9d740

What's new in 0.2.0

Changes since 0.1.1.

Anno 1602 History Edition

  • Open1602 now runs with the data of the History Edition as well as with the GOG edition and the
Königsedition. It finds the installation below Ubisoft Connect, in Heroic's prefixes and through
Ubisoft's registry entries, and reads the language folder of the chosen language.
  • Its main menu with the true colour art, its Game.dat and savegames in the user's folder.
  • Its Bink 2 videos play (Open1602's own decoder, no new library); its Options button opens the
    display window.

Mods

  • A content registry: the values of the original's buildings and figures, buildings, goods,
inhabitant classes and unlock levels of a package's own, all as data.
  • A package can bring its own PNG pictures for buildings, figures and ships, icons for the build
menu, goods and messages, and sounds and music as Ogg Vorbis or FLAC.
  • Scripts: packages can bring a script.lua (Lua 5.4.8 in a sandbox) with tick events and
messages; its state is kept in the savegame.

Game settings

  • A page "Original settings" in the start dialog brings back eleven bugs and exploits of the
original and its computer players, one by one; Open1602's fixes stay the default.
  • "Graphics: as in the original / modern" in the display window: the classic look draws shadows
and smoke dithered as the original does.

Playing

  • Ships attack another player's buildings and Kontor with a right click; Ctrl or F attacks roads,
    bridges and piers.
  • Soldiers heal at their own doctor (walk up to it, or Ctrl + left click as in the original) and
walk onto a near place instead of stopping short.
  • A destroyed Kontor keeps its city; storage and trade at destroyed Kontors as in the original.
  • Shift + click on the cannons of the ship window fills every free cannon place.

Interface

  • The minimap in the original's design; a right click on the minimap no longer misfires.
  • Coats of arms of the computer opponents' cities in the top bar.
  • The mouse wheel turns the pages of the trade route editor and scrolls the savegames and music
    titles in the settings.
  • The scenario menu shows the briefing's slider; locked campaign parts and inactive buttons are
drawn faded; fulfilled missions play their videos full-screen, as the original.
  • The endless game lists what sets the chosen level apart; the multiplayer name is remembered;
long savegame names end in "...".

Fixes

  • After loading, a city holds no more of a good than its warehouse takes; a stored 0 in
satisfaction and food is read as the original reads it.
  • Many details checked in the game against the original: the tutorial, founding a Kontor, the
settings dialog, the scenario list, the demolish preview and the computer opponents'
    production.
