A community-maintained modification of Split-View Reader v1.3.0 by Fuling Lin.

Original project: https://github.com/zerolfl/zotero-split-view-reader

Changes

  • Added Zotero 10 compatibility declarations.
  • Enabled independent scrolling by default.
  • Preserved optional synchronization through the “Set as Primary View” context-menu action.
  • Improved scroll-listener and animation-frame cleanup.
  • Changed pane activation to pointer entry, avoiding activation tasks during continuous wheel input.
  • Removed the upstream automatic-update endpoint. This release uses manual installation and updates.

Validation

The functional code is unchanged from the locally tested 1.3.1-local.2 build. This public package updates metadata and modification notices.

Test environment:

  • Windows
  • Zotero 10.0.6 / Gecko 140.17.0

Checks completed:

  • 11 Node regression checks passed.
  • 11 Zotero runtime checks passed.
  • Two different PDFs were tested with 90 native wheel events per pane, including forward and reverse scrolling.
  • The other pane remained stationary during independent scrolling.

Other platforms and versions have not been tested.

Installation

  1. Download the .xpi file from Assets.
  2. In Zotero, open Tools → Plugins.
  3. Open the gear menu and select “Install Plugin From File…”.
  4. Select the XPI and restart Zotero.

The plugin ID is unchanged, so this package replaces an existing Split-View Reader installation.

Windows scrolling note

Local testing identified delays involving the legacy Windows UI Automation bridge.

On affected systems, setting accessibility.uia.enable to 2 in Zotero’s Config Editor and restarting improved scrolling in our tests. This application-level setting is separate from the plugin and is not changed automatically by this package.

Compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technologies requires separate verification.
