Runner 0.8.0 is the first stable release for Windows, alongside the existing macOS app. Direct chats, crew missions, and MCP coordination now run natively on Windows.

Windows support

  • Native Windows x64 app. Windows window controls, fonts, Ctrl shortcuts, file opening, and Explorer reveal, with agent terminals running through ConPTY. No WSL required.
  • Claude Code and Codex. Native agent launching, Claude conversation resume, bundled CLI helpers, and MCP integration for detected and enabled clients. Process-tree cleanup stops a session's child processes with it.
  • Per-user installer. Installs without administrator access, adds a Start Menu shortcut, and includes the app and both CLI helpers. Settings, chats, and missions are retained across upgrades.
  • Update notifications. The Settings update icon and Settings → Updates link to newer stable builds. Download the installer, close Runner, and run it to upgrade.

Also in this release

  • New chats default to Direct mode on both platforms, with Direct listed first in the mode selector.
  • Terminal output batching reduces cursor jumps during bursts of agent output, including Windows ConPTY sessions.

Download and upgrade

  • macOS, Apple Silicon: download Runner-0.8.0-arm64.dmg, or update through Sparkle. The app is signed and notarized.
  • Windows x64, Windows 10 version 1809 or later: download the Runner-Setup-0.8.0.20260906.1353-x64.exe installer. The installer is currently unsigned, so Windows may show a SmartScreen warning.
  • Moving from a Windows nightly: close Runner and install 0.8.0 over the existing installation. Your data is retained and future update checks use stable releases. Nightly installations remain on their nightly channel until you install a stable build.

Install the agent CLIs you want to use separately. On Windows, Claude Code also requires Git for Windows for Git Bash; npm-based CLI installations require Node.js. PowerShell 7 is optional.

Windows ARM64, Intel Macs, and Linux are not supported in this release.
