Downloads: Windows → MetroidDread-PC-v0.5.0.zip. Linux / Steam Deck → Metroid_Dread-x86_64.AppImage. You need your own dump of Metroid Dread 2.1.0.

New

  • Linux build with the Play screen and an AppImage that updates itself; Add to Steam works from Desktop Mode. Tested on a Steam Deck (#3, #22).
  • Keyboard remapping: Controls → Keyboard (#25, #14).
  • Menu button swap: Controls → Menu buttons → Swap. A accepts and B goes back in menus (#13).
  • 5.1 surround: Audio → Channels → 5.1 (#28).
  • Cheats in Atmosphere format, in Metroid Dread_data\cheats\. Turn them on and off in the F1 menu. Cheats that change values work; cheats that patch code don't (#11).
  • 32:9 picture shape (experimental) (#27).
  • Brazilian Portuguese fan translation by JumpmanClub Brasil, imported from Display → Language (#15).
  • 90 FPS frame-limit option.

Fixes

  • No sound when Windows reports no device for the old audio API: the game now falls back to WASAPI (#16).
  • Crash on AMD cards right after loading a save: the driver's ASTC decoding is no longer used on AMD (#12, #7).
  • Windows display scaling (125%, 150%) no longer stretches the game or shrinks Native Vulkan's picture (#12, #17).
  • Native Vulkan resolution scaling: smoother downscaling, cleaner glow (#17).
  • Crash at the acid enemy at high frame rates: the frame rate drops briefly when the game's particle buffers run low.
  • Keyboard L3/R3 keys added (Shift and F), so the Phantom Cloak prompt can be used (#32).
  • Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) shows real text instead of raw keys (#30).
  • Rumble (#20):
    • works per controller;
    • PS4/PS5 pads rumble over Bluetooth;
    • short and weak effects are felt;
    • round stick dead zone;
    • faster controller polling above 60 FPS.
  • F4 switches between 60 FPS and your own cap for the session.
  • Black window at startup instead of a white one.
  • OpenGL sometimes failed to start right after the Play screen ("does not support OpenGL 4.3" on cards that do): it now retries, and the message says what failed.
  • Linux: steady frame pacing.

Updating

  • Windows: the updater installs it from the Play screen. The first start after this update rebuilds the game code once (a few minutes).
  • Linux: download the AppImage; later versions update from the Play screen.

Renderer

  • Native Vulkan updated to ScarletNX 112db409.

Thanks to @DaniSald for the Linux build (#22).
