Downpipe 0.5.2

Choose a tag to compare

@yusufky63 yusufky63 released this 18 Oct 14:00

Every settings tab in sight.

Files

File What it is
Downpipe_0.5.2_x64-setup.exe Windows installer (NSIS). Installs for your user account; recommended.
Downpipe_0.5.2_x64_en-US.msi Windows installer (MSI), for managed installs.
downpipe-extension-chrome-0.5.2.zip Browser extension for Chrome and Edge.
downpipe-extension-firefox-0.5.2.zip Browser extension for Firefox 128 and newer.
SHA256SUMS.txt SHA-256 checksums of the files above.

The Linux packages (.deb, .rpm, AppImage) and the universal macOS .dmg are built from the tag by GitHub Actions and added to this release when that build finishes. None of the packages are code-signed yet. On Windows, SmartScreen may stop the first start: choose More info, then Run anyway. On macOS, the README's Install section explains how to open an app Gatekeeper does not know.

Install over 0.5.x; your list and settings are kept. The extension has no changes besides its version number.

Changed

  • Settings tabs in two rows. The eleven tabs of the settings dialog sit in two rows (more on a narrow window) instead of one row that hid the last tabs off the edge, and the bar stays in place while a long tab scrolls.

What came in 0.5.0 is in the 0.5.0 release. The full list is in CHANGELOG.md.

Downpipe 0.5.1

Install over 0.5.0; your list and settings are kept. The extension has no changes besides its version number.

Fixed

  • "Download failed" notifications in your language. The system notification for a failed download gives the reason in the app's language, in the same words as the list and the details (the HTTP status included for a server error), instead of the engine's English text.

What came in 0.5.0 (BitTorrent, YouTube playlists, the site grabber and feeds, site rules, actions after a download, backup and IDM import, remote control, Linux and macOS packages) is in the 0.5.0 release. The full list is in CHANGELOG.md.

Downpipe 0.5.0

@yusufky63 yusufky63 released this 18 Oct 06:10

BitTorrent, YouTube playlists, a site grabber and feeds, per-site rules, actions after a download, backup and IDM import, a remote control page for phones, and the first Linux and macOS packages.

Files

File What it is
Downpipe_0.5.0_x64-setup.exe Windows installer (NSIS). Installs for your user account; recommended.
Downpipe_0.5.0_x64_en-US.msi Windows installer (MSI), for managed installs.
downpipe-extension-chrome-0.5.0.zip Browser extension for Chrome and Edge.
downpipe-extension-firefox-0.5.0.zip Browser extension for Firefox 128 and newer.

Install over 0.4.0; your list and settings are kept and upgraded. Update the extension together with the app: torrents, playlists and starting Downpipe from the browser need both.

Installing the extension

The extension is not in the Chrome Web Store or on addons.mozilla.org yet. Install and start the desktop app first, then:

  • Chrome or Edge: unzip the Chrome file, open chrome://extensions (or edge://extensions), turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked and pick the unzipped folder. To update, replace the folder's contents and press the reload icon on the extension's card.
  • Firefox: unzip the Firefox file, open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, choose Load Temporary Add-on… and pick manifest.json in the unzipped folder. Firefox removes temporary add-ons when it closes.

What's new

  • BitTorrent: magnet links and .torrent files download in the same list and queues, with a file picker before the start and seeding limits in Settings → BitTorrent. Peers see your IP address while a torrent runs.
  • YouTube playlists and channels open a list of their videos to tick and add; subtitles and automatic captions can be saved with a video, and a file name template names videos from {title}, {channel}, {date}, {index} and {id}.
  • Site grabber (as in IDM) lists the files a site links to, a few pages deep, to add to a queue. Feeds subscribe to RSS and Atom and add new items' files by themselves. Google Drive share links download the file.
  • Site rules (Settings → Sites) give a host or domain its own connections, speed limit, user agent, referer, proxy, folder and queue, with an address tester.
  • After a download: run a command, scan with Microsoft Defender or another scanner, and extract zip, tar and 7z archives, each off until you turn it on.
  • Backup and restore of settings, list and feeds to one file, and import from IDM. Backups never carry commands, tool paths or cookies.
  • Remote control (off by default): a token-protected web page for phones and an HTTP API to watch and manage downloads from another device.
  • Downpipe starts from the browser when a link is sent while it is closed. Plus a speed limit per download, Pause until a time, request headers and Paste as cURL, Alt+click to let the browser download a link, and Don't ask again for links already in the list.
  • Engine fixes for hosts that cap connections, network drops, silent connections, sign-in pages saved as files and awkward file names.

The full list is in CHANGELOG.md.

Downpipe 0.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@yusufky63 yusufky63 released this 18 Oct 00:23

Videos on web pages, YouTube, IDM-style download windows and ten languages.

Files

File What it is
Downpipe_0.4.0_x64-setup.exe Windows installer (NSIS). Installs for your user account; recommended.
Downpipe_0.4.0_x64_en-US.msi Windows installer (MSI), for managed installs.
downpipe-extension-chrome-0.4.0.zip Browser extension for Chrome and Edge.
downpipe-extension-firefox-0.4.0.zip Browser extension for Firefox 128 and newer.
SHA256SUMS.txt SHA-256 checksums of the files above.

Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. The installers are not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may stop the first start: choose More info, then Run anyway. Install over 0.3.0; your list and settings are kept and upgraded.

Update the extension together with the app: a 0.3.0 app answers the new extension's streams with "This version of Downpipe cannot download streams".

Optional tools

  • YouTube needs yt-dlp and Deno. Settings → Media → Download yt-dlp and Deno fetches the official builds and checks their SHA-256, or point Downpipe at your own copies.
  • FFmpeg joins separate video and sound into one file. It is not bundled; install it (for example winget install Gyan.FFmpeg) or set its path in Settings → Media. Without it, such downloads are saved as two files.

What's new

  • Videos and music on web pages: with Media on this page switched on in the extension, the HLS and DASH streams and media files a page plays are listed, once per stream, and a Download button appears over playing videos. Pick the quality and sound track in the confirmation window. AES-128 streams work; DRM-protected and live streams are refused.
  • YouTube through yt-dlp: from the page, the video's Download button, the context menu, or a link added in the app, with a quality list (also Audio only).
  • IDM-style windows: a browser download asks for its name, folder and queue in a small window over the browser, then follows the download in its own progress window, with Pause, Cancel and Hide, and Open and Open folder when it is done. The windows keep the normal window order.
  • Already in the list? Adding a link that is already in the list asks, as IDM does: add it with a numbered name, replace the existing file, or show or resume the existing download.
  • Ten languages: English, Türkçe, Español, Deutsch, Français, Italiano, Português (Brasil), Русский, 简体中文 and 日本語, in the app, its tray menu and notifications, and in the extension. Settings → App → Language; by default the system's language (the extension follows the browser's).
  • Selecting several downloads with checkboxes and a bar for Resume, Pause, Remove and more; a Date column for when a download finished or was last tried.

The full list is in CHANGELOG.md.

Downpipe 0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@yusufky63 yusufky63 released this 17 Oct 18:44

The first published release of Downpipe, an open-source download manager: a resumable multi-connection HTTP engine in Rust with a desktop app, a command-line tool and a browser extension.

Files

File What it is
Downpipe_0.3.0_x64-setup.exe Windows installer (NSIS). Installs for your user account; recommended.
Downpipe_0.3.0_x64_en-US.msi Windows installer (MSI), for managed installs.
downpipe-extension-chrome-0.3.0.zip Browser extension for Chrome and Edge.
downpipe-extension-firefox-0.3.0.zip Browser extension for Firefox 128 and newer.
SHA256SUMS.txt SHA-256 checksums of the files above.

Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. The installers include the native host the extension talks to; Downpipe registers it for your user account when it starts.

The installers are not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may stop the first start: choose More info, then Run anyway. macOS and Linux builds are not published yet; build them from source as described in the README.

  • Firefox: unzip the Firefox file, open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, choose Load Temporary Add-on… and pick manifest.json in the unzipped folder. Firefox removes temporary add-ons when it closes.

The extension's popup then says Connected to Downpipe.

What's in 0.3.0

  • Your own right-click menu on downloads, acting on every selected download: Open, Show in folder, Resume or Retry, Pause, Download again…, Use a new link…, Move to queue, Queue order, Copy link, Copy file path, Properties and Remove…. The browser's menu (Back, Reload, Inspect) and keys such as F5 are gone.
  • Selection and keyboard as in a file manager: Ctrl and Shift click, arrow keys, Ctrl+A, Enter for details, Delete to remove, Ctrl+C to copy links, Ctrl+F to search, Ctrl+N to add a link.
  • Queues that run side by side, each with its own number of downloads at once, with Move to top, up, down and to bottom. The schedule can start and stop one queue.
  • Ask before downloads from the browser start: a dialog for the file name, folder and queue, with Start download, Download later and Cancel. The extension shows such downloads as waiting for your answer.
  • Clipboard watching (off by default): a copied download link opens the Add dialog.
  • Keep the computer awake while downloads run, taskbar progress, and Download again for finished files.
  • From earlier milestones, released here for the first time:
    • Multi-connection downloads that add connections only while they help.
    • Resume after a pause, a restart or a crash, with checksums.
    • Categories, a tray icon, notifications, a schedule, and "when done" sleep or shut down.
    • Link patterns, proxy and user agent settings.
    • The browser extension, with capture filters and "download links on this page".
