WebCodex v0.5.0

WebCodex v0.5.0 is the first stable release in the 0.5 series. It expands self-hosted Server/Runner workflows, cross-client MCP access, Desktop computer control, and release/platform coverage.

Important upgrade action: refresh your ChatGPT plugin schema / 升级后必须刷新 ChatGPT 插件 Schema

After updating to v0.5.0, refresh the connected WebCodex plugin/tool schema in ChatGPT (reconnect the plugin and refresh its tools). Existing conversations may retain old MCP tool names or input schemas. If tools still look outdated after refresh, start a new ChatGPT conversation. This is required for reliable compatibility with the v0.5.0 tool contract.

升级到 v0.5.0 后,请务必在 ChatGPT 中刷新 WebCodex 插件的工具 Schema(重新连接插件并刷新工具列表)。 已有对话可能缓存旧版 MCP 工具名或参数签名;刷新后仍有异常时,请新建对话。

Highlights

  • Connected AI clients: Verified MCP Window identities and improved tool discovery and CLI results for ChatGPT, Codex and Claude-oriented workflows; more consistent authorization and recovery evidence across clients.
  • Durable sessions and Jobs: Incremental SQLite-backed Workflow Session persistence, bounded history/activity reads, more reliable unfinished-call and Job observation reporting, and clearer long-running task recovery.
  • Windows Desktop and Computer control: Additional native selection and key-chord actions, visible local activity and pause/resume controls, and safer local interception of computer-control requests.
  • Runtime operations: Runner Job capacity defaults to 32 and can be updated using fenced configuration reload; improved Project discovery, Server diagnostics, file glob matching, and Window activity responsiveness.
  • Development tools: Optional CLI discovery, structured validation/build support, and stronger limits and diagnostics for tool execution and project workflows.

Upgrading from v0.4.6

  1. Back up your Server state and configuration first. The v0.5 series changes MCP tool exposure, schemas, runtime metadata, and Desktop interactions. Upgrade compatible Server/Runner/Desktop components together instead of mixing versions.
  2. Reconnect and refresh MCP tools. Refresh the WebCodex App/connector schema after upgrading; if an existing ChatGPT conversation still has cached tool names or parameters, start a new conversation after reconnecting.
  3. Check optional workflow features. Goal, Agent continuation and Job continuation tools are operator-configurable and are not exposed by default on the zero-config MCP surface. Do not assume unattended continuation is supported on every client.
  4. macOS distribution: The primary macOS Apple Silicon DMG uses a persistent self-signed signing identity and is not Apple Developer ID notarized. Follow the installation guidance and verify checksums.

Downloads and installation

This release includes native Server/Runner/CLI archives for linux-x64, linux-arm64, darwin-x64, darwin-arm64, win32-x64, and win32-arm64, plus primary Desktop installers for macOS Apple Silicon and Windows x64/ARM64. The macOS Intel Desktop DMG is a separate supplemental release asset that may arrive after primary publication.

The npm distribution is @yyjeqhc/webcodex@0.5.0; install using the public npm registry once publication is verified. Check SHA256SUMS and webcodex-release-manifest.json for artifact identity and integrity.

Build provenance and scope

The six native runtime build jobs and the three primary Desktop artifact jobs passed on the immutable v0.5.0 source in Actions run #41306051173. The overall Actions run was not successful because the optional Unified Installers extension failed. The release therefore deliberately does not include the optional Unified Installers. The successful native candidates were downloaded from that exact run and the standard repository assembly step was reproduced on the sf release host; checksum, build identity, macOS signing evidence and the release bundle verifier passed. No native release binary was rebuilt or substituted.

Verification and known limitations

Native signing and installation checks are provided by the platform-specific Release build workflows. Host continuation and cross-conversation behavior depend on client support, explicit permissions, and operator configuration.
