Super Mario Kart Recomp v0.1.0-preview
Overview
This is an experimental native Windows x64 static recompilation release candidate of Super Mario Kart (USA) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), powered by the snesrecomp framework and featuring a modern, embedded graphical launcher powered by recomp-ui.
The original 65816 CPU assembly code from the retail cartridge has been statically translated ahead-of-time (AOT) into pure native C execution units. Precise hardware simulation models the SNES Picture Processing Unit (PPU), Mode 7 raster interrupts, APU/SPC700 audio coprocessor, and firmware-free DSP-1 high-level emulation (HLE).
Key Features
- Native recomp-ui GUI Launcher: Full-featured graphical frontend featuring Game, Controls, Video, and Audio tabs without displaying a console window.
- Strict Dual ROM Verification: Automated SHA-256 and CRC32 identity verification supporting both raw headerless (
.sfc) and 512-byte copier-headered (.smc) ROM dumps. - Independent 2-Player Controls:
- Full simultaneous keyboard mapping (Player 1 on WASD/Arrows; Player 2 on Numpad).
- Multi-gamepad routing via SDL2 GameController API with dynamic hotplugging.
- Per-player device selection and analog stick deadzone calibration.
- Portable persistence through
config.iniandkeybinds.ini.
- Mode 7 Split-Screen & DSP-1 HLE: Authentic scanline 112 hardware raster interrupt driving the upper 3D perspective viewport and lower 2D aerial course map, backed by real-time DSP-1 matrix transformations.
- Video & Display Presentation:
- Aspect Ratio selection:
4:3 (CRT TV),8:7 (Square Pixels), or1:1 (Square Frame). - Integer window scaling from 1x to 6x.
- Seamless fullscreen toggle (
F11orAlt+Enter) and bilinear filtering option.
- Aspect Ratio selection:
- Master Audio Volume: Dedicated background audio pull thread at 44.1 kHz with APU mutex synchronization, linear volume attenuation slider, and one-click mute.
- Zero Toolchain Dependency: Completely precompiled native Windows x64 standalone executable; no GCC, Clang, or Python runtime required.
