Preparing for update to newest version

Hi,

I have a running installation that is about a year old now. I want to prepare to upgrade to the version released on 05/01/2023. Does the upgrade preserve all current settings? And is there a rollback path in the event something goes wrong?

If you follow the instructions:
It tells you to RENAME your current allsky to allsky-OLD if you want to retain settings and copy over files.
If you want to roll back, just change the new allsky to allsky-NEW, and take the OLD off the original.

The installation will move your old "images" and "darks" directories to the new directory, so if you need to roll back you'll need to move those back as well.

You will need to manually copy the settings from the old files into the new ones, don't simply copy the old files.

Is it absolutely a requirement to update the OS? I have my Allsky on the eve of a tall pole barn and it is quite difficult to get up there to do any maintenance.

@dchamb55 Dale, it's only a strong suggestion. Many people haven't updated in a really long time and have all sorts of "stuff" on their Pi which may make support more difficult.
If you have an RPi camera you may want to strongly consider upgrading for a future release since sensor temperature and dark frames will be supported.
