Submitted by: Juan Hernandez
Time spent: 30 hours spent in total
The following required functionality is complete:
- User can enter a bill amount, choose a tip percentage, and see the tip and total values.
The following optional features are implemented:
- Settings page to change any of the three tip percentages.
- UI animations
- Remembering the bill amount across app restarts.
- Using locale-specific currency and currency thousands separators.
- Making sure the keyboard is always visible and the bill amount is always the first responder. This way the user doesn't have to tap anywhere to use this app. Just launch the app and start typing.
The following additional features are implemented:
- Added a color theme.
- Modified the layout to include some public domain images in the animations.
- Changed fonts to harmonize with new theme.
Here's a walkthrough of implemented user stories:

Describe any challenges encountered while building the app.
Since I had no previous programming experience (only knew HTML and CSS), this project was challenging. However, I realized there are some parallels between building an app with swift and xcode, and building a website. By the end I was getting pretty familiar with the different components of a swift class, and how they interact with each other, with the views, and with the components of another class to make possible the functioning of an app. Great learning experience!
