FAQ
Is Nautelle a hosted service? No. You run it yourself: the control plane on any server, and a runner on each machine that holds your repositories. See Self-hosting.
Which agents does it run? Claude Code. Board cards and orchestrator slots run Claude Code sessions. Codex sessions on a runner are listed, but Codex workers and a Codex orchestrator are the next milestone and are not built yet.
Do I need the Code Sentinel orchestrator? Only for the fleet, which works through ready-labelled GitHub issues. The Board runs its own card workers and does not need the orchestrator.
Does it work with GitLab or Bitbucket? No. Projects must be GitHub repositories: issues, pull requests and checks are the source of truth.
What does "API-equivalent cost" mean if I am on a subscription? It is what the tokens your agents used would cost at public API prices. It lets you compare work and set budgets whatever plan you are on. See Sessions, usage and budgets.
Does the server get shell access to my machine? No. The runner runs typed commands from an allowlist and never runs a shell string. Its local policy limits which folders it watches and which permission modes it launches. Only you, on the machine, can change that policy. See Security and access.
Do I have to open a port on my machine? No. The runner dials out to the API over a WebSocket.
Are my prompts and code sent to the server? Code is not. Session content, meaning prompts and replies, is stored only for projects that turn it on under Project › Settings › Sessions.
What is sent to third parties? Only what you configure: the GitHub App, the LLM providers for the AI assistant, DeepL for translating stored text, and a speech-to-text service for Telegram voice notes.
Can an agent merge to main on its own?
Only if you turn on auto-merge for that project. A new project merges
automatically when its base branch is not the default branch, and does not
merge automatically when it is. See
Card workers and shipping.
What happens when CI fails? Nautelle starts a fix round on the same card, at most 3 per pull request. After that, it asks a person.
Why is my card "Waiting"? One of its dependencies is not accepted yet. You can still run it, and Nautelle will warn you. Turn on Auto-run to start it as soon as its dependencies are accepted. See Board and cards.
An agent is stuck at a prompt. What do I do? Steward handles the safe cases on its own and notifies you about the rest. You can answer from the card, from the live pane or from Telegram.
How do I cut token spend? Keep Token Saver on. It is on by default. It also enables Context handoff. To cap spend, set a budget.
Can I see what Token Saver saved? Yes: on the card face, on Project › Token saver and in Usage.
