@AsafMazuz1 AsafMazuz1 released this 05 Nov 19:11

CoolDock 2.2.3-beta.2 (Beta)

Beta 2 adds "Clicking the active app" (Hide), New Private Window for Opera, Chromium, Arc, Firefox and Zen, a new color picker, lower idle battery use, and File Shelf drops from browsers and Photos. Everything from Beta 1 is included.

🆕 New in Beta 2

  • Click the active app to hide it — Settings > Dock > Apps > Clicking the active app: None (default, same as the macOS Dock: the app comes forward again) or Hide. With Hide, clicking the icon of the app you're using hides it; if that app has no window open on this desktop, the click opens or restores one as before. Thanks to Mandro.
  • New Window / New Private Window for more browsers — right-click Opera (also Opera GX, Air, beta and developer), Chromium, Arc, Firefox (also Developer Edition and Nightly) or Zen in the dock for New Window and New Private Window. If CoolDock isn't allowed to choose the browser's menu command, a clear message tells you which permission to turn on. Thanks to Mandro.
  • A new color picker everywhere — every color setting opens the same picker in a small pop-over: the Appit palette first, any custom color one tab away. That covers Pixel Clock and Overlap Clock, the Focus timer accent, clicker and metronome colors, the divider line color, the File Shelf icon color and the Trash badge color. Your saved colors stay as they are.
  • Easier on your battery — CoolDock uses much less power while idle. Loading placeholders (for example a Weather widget that hasn't loaded yet) stop shimmering after a few seconds, Quick Toggles read Wi-Fi without starting a helper every 2 seconds, and app badge checks no longer start helpers for apps that already answered. Thanks to Sean.
  • File Shelf takes images from browsers and Photos — an image dragged out of Opera, Chrome or Safari, a photo from Photos, or any other app's dragged file now lands on the File Shelf, instead of the shelf lighting up and adding nothing. Thanks to Mandro.

🆕 New in Beta 1

  • Hide the dock from screen sharing — Settings > Privacy > Screen Sharing > Hide dock from screen sharing & recordings. The dock, its labels, previews and widget pop-ups stay on your screen but are left out of Zoom, Meet and Teams shares, screen recordings and screenshots. Off by default, and switching applies right away.
  • Turn off the window layout controls on previews — Settings > Dock > Apps > Window layout controls on previews. Turn it off and window previews (and the App Switcher gallery) no longer show the Full Screen / halves / corners grid: a click just brings that window to the front. On by default, as before. Thanks to Jeremy and Nazar.
  • More AI usage widgets your way — the Cursor, Copilot, GLM, Grok, OpenCode and Antigravity usage widgets get the same right-click choices as Codex and Claude: Percentage (Used or Remaining) and Click Action (Refresh or open the provider's website). Thanks to Lazar.

✨ Improved (Beta 1)

  • Steadier updates — the update installer now starts in its own helper instead of inside CoolDock. If macOS ever stops an update from starting, CoolDock tells you to quit and reopen it (with a link to the latest download) instead of freezing on a second try. Thanks to Akiva.
  • macOS 27 permission name — on macOS 27, where Apple renamed Accessibility to "Device Control and Data Access", every CoolDock permission message, button and onboarding step now uses the new name, so you can find the setting. Thanks to Akiva.
  • World Clock finds more cities — San Francisco, Austin, Seattle, San Diego, Las Vegas, Dallas, Houston, Boston, Washington DC, Miami, Atlanta, Montreal, Munich, Barcelona, Milan, Beijing, Bengaluru, Osaka and Tel Aviv now show up when you search. Thanks to Lazar.
  • Export Diagnostics tells us more about updates — it now keeps the update helper's messages and notes when an update made CoolDock stop responding, so we can help you faster.

🐛 Fixed (Beta 1)

  • Swap at the Bottom with a macOS Dock menu open — right-clicking an app in the macOS Dock no longer brings CoolDock back on top of it while the menu is open. CoolDock waits until the menu closes. Thanks to gingerbeard.
  • Hide/Show shortcut works on the first press — after Reset Layout, and with docks on all displays (including a display connected while the dock was hidden), one press now hides or shows the dock instead of needing two.
  • Now Playing cover after resuming Music — the first song after you resume Music shows its cover instead of an empty frame. Thanks to Karol.
  • Window layout controls on stacked displays — with one display above or below another, Full Screen, halves and corners now place the window on its own display, not on the dock's display.

✅ QA checklist

Quick checks for the team and beta testers. Tick each one and report anything off to support@appitstudio.com.

New in Beta 2

  • Update + launch: with the Beta setting on, update from 2.2.3-beta.1 (or 2.2.2) via Check for Updates → the update installs without hanging, CoolDock relaunches as 2.2.3-beta.2 (65), dock and profiles as before, license still active.
  • Clicking the active app = None: leave the new setting on None, click the icon of the app you're using → it stays in front, like before.
  • Clicking the active app = Hide: Settings > Dock > Apps > Clicking the active app > Hide. Click the icon of the app you're using → it hides; click again → it comes back. Minimize all its windows and click → they come back instead of hiding. Click CoolDock's own items → CoolDock never hides itself.
  • Private windows: right-click Opera (or GX/Air), Chromium, Arc, Firefox and Zen in the dock > New Window and New Private Window → each opens the right kind of window. With Accessibility (Device Control and Data Access on macOS 27) off, Firefox or Zen > New Private Window shows a message that says what to allow, and the dock keeps responding while it's open.
  • Chrome, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi, Safari: their right-click New Window / New Private Window still work as before.
  • Color picker: change the color in Focus (timer accent, clicker, metronome), the divider line, File Shelf icon, Trash badge, Pixel Clock and Overlap Clock → the picker opens as a pop-over, the pick applies right away, Default (where it shows) resets it, and the color is still there after a relaunch.
  • Battery: leave CoolDock running idle for an hour (with Weather and Quick Toggles if you use them) → Activity Monitor > Energy shows CoolDock low; a Weather widget that can't load stops shimmering after a few seconds.
  • Badges + Wi-Fi toggle: unread badges (Mail, Messages, Slack) still show and clear; the Quick Toggles Wi-Fi switch shows the right state and still turns Wi-Fi on and off.
  • File Shelf drops: drag an image out of Opera, Chrome and Safari, and a photo out of Photos, onto the File Shelf tile and onto the open File Shelf → each one is added and can be dragged out again. A plain Finder file still works; dragging a plain link doesn't light the shelf up.

From Beta 1

  • Check for Updates again: after relaunching, choose Check for Updates → it says you're up to date, no error and no freeze.
  • Swap at the Bottom + Dock menu: choose Swap at the Bottom, move to the bottom edge so the macOS Dock shows, right-click an app in it and move the pointer up into the menu → only the macOS Dock and its menu show; close the menu and move away → CoolDock comes back.
  • Hide from screen sharing: Settings > Privacy > Screen Sharing, turn on Hide dock from screen sharing & recordings, take a screenshot (Shift-Command-3) → the dock is visible on your screen but missing from the screenshot. Turn it off, screenshot → the dock is there. Turn it on again, screenshot → hidden again.
  • Screen sharing pop-ups: with it on, open a widget pop-up and hover an app for its preview while sharing in Zoom/Meet/Teams (or recording the screen) → none of them show in the share; Settings and other titled windows still do.
  • Hide/Show shortcut: press your Hide/Show shortcut to hide the dock, use Reset Layout, then press the shortcut once → the dock hides on the first press. With docks on all displays, hide the dock, connect a display, press once → every dock shows.
  • Window layout controls off: Settings > Dock > Apps, turn off Window layout controls on previews, hover an app with several windows → no layout grid; click a preview → that window comes to the front. Turn it back on → the grid is back.
  • Stacked displays: with a display above or below the main one, hover an app whose window is on the other display, use Left Half from its preview → the window snaps on its own display.
  • Now Playing cover: pause Music for a while, then press play → the cover shows for the first song, not an empty frame.
  • AI usage widgets: right-click a Cursor, Copilot, GLM, Grok, OpenCode or Antigravity usage widget > Percentage > Remaining → it shows the percent left; Click Action > Open, click it → the provider's website opens.
  • macOS 27 wording: on macOS 27, open Settings > Layout and onboarding with the permission off → the text says "Device Control and Data Access" and the button opens that pane. On macOS 26 or older it still says "Accessibility".
  • World Clock search: add a World Clock, search for San Francisco, Austin and Tel Aviv → each city is found and shows the right time.
  • Export Diagnostics: Settings > Diagnostics > Export → the file saves and opens without the dock freezing.
  • Basics: app launches, license stays active, Check for Updates works, no crash after 10 min of normal use.

Thanks for testing CoolDock! Please send anything that looks off, with a screenshot or Export Diagnostics if you can, to support@appitstudio.com. Appit Studio

@AsafMazuz1 AsafMazuz1 released this 31 Oct 07:03

CoolDock 2.2.2-beta.3 (Beta)

Beta 3 keeps links, Shortcuts and Focus filters working when macOS stops answering, brings your music back to Now Playing after a paused video, and keeps two versions of one app apart. Everything from Beta 1 and Beta 2 is included below.

🐛 New in Beta 3

  • Links, Shortcuts and Focus never hang — when macOS stops answering an Automation permission check, cooldock:// links, the Switch CoolDock Profile Shortcuts action and CoolDock Focus filters keep working instead of waiting forever. Thanks to Kenny for the report.
  • Your music comes back — if a video takes over the Now Playing widget and you pause it while Spotify or Music keeps playing, the widget goes back to your song. Thanks to Bruno and Aran.
  • Two versions of one app — with two copies of the same app on the dock (like Photoshop 2025 and 2026), each one gets its own running dot, click, Hide, Quit, previews and window list.

🐛 New in Beta 2

  • The dock comes back after fullscreen — with Hide During Fullscreen on, leaving a fullscreen app could leave the dock invisible on the glass styles until the next fullscreen. CoolDock now hides the dock in place during fullscreen, so it slides back fully drawn every time. Thanks to Chris for the report.
  • Stays on every desktop — the dock no longer drops off your other desktops after a fullscreen app.

🆕 New in Beta 1

  • Move profiles to another Mac — Settings > Profiles > Move to Another Mac: Export Profiles… saves the profiles you pick (optionally with appearance & behavior and custom icons) to a .cooldocklayout file. On the other Mac, choose Import Profiles… or double-click the file. You get a preview first, imported profiles are added next to yours (never replacing one), and a backup is saved before anything changes. Each profile's menu also has Export…. Thanks to Bran for the idea.
  • Restore a backup from Settings — Settings > Profiles > Backups > Restore from Backup… lists your saved backups, shows what restoring would change, and asks before it restores.
  • Switch profiles from other apps — cooldock://switch?name=Work, cooldock://switch/next, cooldock://switch/previous and cooldock://profile/<name> links; a Switch CoolDock Profile action in Shortcuts; and a CoolDock Focus filter that switches to the profile you choose when a Focus turns on. Settings > Profiles has Copy Profile Link. Thanks to Kenny for the idea.
  • Make folders without dragging — right-click an app or folder in the dock: Add to Folder ▸ puts it in one of your app folders, New Folder with ▸ makes a new folder from it and another item. Add Widgets also tells you that you can drop one app onto another to make a folder. Thanks to Bran.
  • Todoist widgets — two new widgets: Todoist (your next task) and Todoist Tasks (a list with + for Quick Add). Click the circle to complete a task, the title to open it. Setup asks for your Todoist API token and an optional filter (default "today | overdue").
  • Fantastical in the Calendar widget — when the Calendar widget's Open With is Fantastical, clicking an event opens Fantastical on that day, and the widget menu adds New Event in Fantastical.
  • AI usage widgets: percent left + open the app — right-click a Codex or Claude usage widget: Percentage picks Used or Remaining, Click Action picks Refresh or Open Codex / Open Claude.
  • Temperature widgets: Show When Above — right-click a Temperature widget > Show When Above (60–90 °C). The widget appears when your Mac reaches that temperature and hides again once it cools down.
  • Show at Screen Edge While Hidden — Settings > Layout (dock pinned to the top or bottom): when a fullscreen app or Hide on Window Hover hides CoolDock, rest the pointer on that screen edge to bring it back. Off by default.
  • ChatGPT (Codex) in AI Assistant — Settings > AI Assistant now lists ChatGPT (Codex) next to Codex, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and VS Code.

✨ Improved (Beta 1)

  • Replace the macOS Dock keeps windows above CoolDock — the Replace layout now turns on Reserve Dock Space, so zoomed, new and tiled windows stop going under the dock, just like with the macOS Dock. The Reveal and Auto-Hide layouts let windows overlap, like an auto-hiding macOS Dock.
  • Right-click menus open beside the item — dock menus now open next to the icon you clicked, on the open side of the dock, like the macOS Dock, instead of on top of the icon at the cursor.
  • Window previews are smoother — previews no longer jump or slide between apps, and they use much less CPU while open.
  • Widget pop-ups open faster — the Focus, media and Dock Structure pop-ups open without a first-frame stutter.
  • File Shelf keeps its shelf icon — the tile shows an empty or full tray, with a file count badge from the first file, instead of a pile of thumbnails.
  • Folders side by side keep a gap — two folders next to each other no longer look like one block.
  • Date widget fits long month names — "October", "September" and other long months are no longer cut off.
  • Setup panels keep AI assistant changes — if an AI assistant changes a widget while its setup panel is open, the panel shows the change and doesn't undo it.
  • Restore Original macOS Dock (Settings > Layout) now explains what it does in the same words as the layout choices.
  • Export Diagnostics keeps more useful log lines (Reserve Dock Space, Bluetooth, app actions, running apps) so we can help you faster.

🐛 Fixed (Beta 1)

  • Quitting CoolDock puts your macOS Dock settings back — every normal quit (menu, update, logout) restores the Dock settings you had before CoolDock, even after trying several layouts. Thanks to Akiva and Diego.
  • Fixed layout at the bottom — the Settings and onboarding preview now draws CoolDock above the macOS Dock, where it really goes. Thanks to Ahmed.
  • Minimized apps come back — clicking an app whose windows are all minimized restores them, even for apps (like LINE) that keep an invisible window. Thanks to Naldo.
  • Now Playing keeps the song — the song and cover stay when you switch profiles, and a Spotify song is no longer cleared after a minute. Thanks to Jason.
  • Spotify album covers — Now Playing shows Spotify covers even when the system Now Playing isn't available, and Spotify's progress bar is right from the first second. Thanks to Denzel.
  • Reserve Dock Space keeps working — if macOS gets stuck on one app's window, CoolDock recovers on its own instead of letting windows slide over the dock until a relaunch.
  • No more frozen choosers — More Folders, Choose App, Change Icon…, Choose Calendar App, the screenshot folder and Export Usage Diagnostics open their file chooser above the dock and no longer freeze CoolDock. Thanks to Akiva.
  • Widgets and a folder gallery no longer overlap — opening Widgets closes an open folder gallery instead of drawing both in one panel. Thanks to Akiva.
  • A quit CoolDock stays quit — the AI assistant connection no longer reopens CoolDock when a new Claude Code or Codex session starts. Thanks to Matan.
  • No focus ring on dock widgets — dock widgets no longer show the blue keyboard focus ring.
  • Stability — fixed a rare crash path when CoolDock reads its own windows or checks for fullscreen apps.

✅ QA checklist

Quick checks for the team and beta testers. Tick each one and report anything off to support@appitstudio.com.

  • Update + launch: update from 2.2.2-beta.2 (or 2.2.1) via Check for Updates (beta channel) → CoolDock relaunches as 2.2.2-beta.3 (62), dock and profiles as before, license still active.
  • Links + Shortcuts: open cooldock://switch/next a few times, then run the Switch CoolDock Profile action in Shortcuts → the profile switches each time within a second; CoolDock quits normally afterwards.
  • Focus filter: System Settings > Focus > a Focus > Add Filter → the CoolDock filter loads; turn the Focus on and off → the profile switches; relaunch CoolDock with the Focus on → it opens on the Focus profile.
  • Now Playing after a paused video: play a song in Spotify or Music, play a YouTube video in the browser, then pause the video → within a few seconds the widget shows your song again.
  • Two versions of one app: put two copies of one app on the dock (e.g. Photoshop 2025 and 2026), open one → only that icon has a dot; Quit from its menu closes only that copy.
  • Fullscreen round trip (glass): pick a glass style (e.g. Dark Glass), turn on Hide During Fullscreen, open an app in fullscreen and leave it again, 3 times → the dock slides back each time with its icons drawn, never an empty or invisible dock.
  • Every desktop after fullscreen: with 2+ desktops (and CoolDock on all of them), go fullscreen and back, then switch to each desktop → the dock is on every one.
  • Nothing inside fullscreen: while the fullscreen app is open, move the pointer near the dock edge (Show at Screen Edge off) → no part of CoolDock shows or catches clicks.
  • Quit restores the macOS Dock: note your macOS Dock auto-hide setting, pick Replace the macOS Dock, then Swap at the Bottom, then quit CoolDock from the menu → within ~3 s the macOS Dock is back exactly as it was before CoolDock.
  • Replace the macOS Dock: choose Replace the macOS Dock (grant Accessibility if asked), then zoom a window (double-click its title bar) → the window stops above CoolDock instead of going under it.
  • Reserve Dock Space over time: with Replace on, use the Mac normally for 30+ min, opening and closing apps → windows keep stopping above the dock; no relaunch needed.
  • Export / Import Profiles: Settings > Profiles > Export Profiles…, pick 2 profiles, save; then Import Profiles… and pick that file → preview lists them, import adds them with new names, your existing profiles are untouched.

@AsafMazuz1 AsafMazuz1 released this 30 Oct 06:31

CoolDock 2.2.2-beta.2 (Beta)

Beta 2 fixes the dock disappearing after you leave a fullscreen app, and keeps it on every desktop. Everything from Beta 1 is included below.

  • Profile links: in Terminal run open "cooldock://switch?name=<your profile>", then open cooldock://switch/next → CoolDock switches to that profile, then to the next one, with no window popping up.
  • Shortcuts + Focus: in Shortcuts add "Switch CoolDock Profile" and run it → the profile switches. In System Settings > Focus > a Focus > Add Filter > CoolDock, pick a profile and turn that Focus on → CoolDock switches to it.
  • Add to Folder / New Folder with: right-click an app icon in the dock > New Folder with ▸ another app → a folder with both apps appears in its place; right-click a third app > Add to Folder ▸ that folder → it joins the folder.
  • Minimized apps: minimize every window of an app (try LINE if you have it), then click its icon in CoolDock → the windows come back.
  • More Folders chooser: Widgets > More Folders → the Finder chooser opens on top, the dock keeps working; pick a folder → it's added.
  • Other choosers: right-click an app > Change Icon… and the Calendar widget's Choose Calendar App → each chooser opens in front, Cancel closes it, the dock never freezes.
  • Widgets vs folder gallery: open a folder widget's gallery (e.g. Downloads), then choose Widgets from the menu bar → only the widget picker shows, not both on top of each other.

CoolDock 2.2.2-beta.1 (Beta)

A big one: move your profiles to another Mac, switch profiles from links, Shortcuts and Focus, make folders from a right-click, new Todoist widgets, and a long list of fixes for the macOS Dock, Now Playing and window previews.

🆕 New

  • Restore Original macOS Dock (Settings > Layout) now explains what it does in the same words as the layout choices.
  • Export Diagnostics keeps more useful log lines (Reserve Dock Space, Bluetooth, app actions, running apps) so we can help you faster.

  • New Windows Open Where You Are: New Window and New Private/Incognito Window for Chrome, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi and Safari - plus Notion's New Window - now open on the desktop you're on, even when the app's other windows live on another Space! Safari profiles work too!
  • A Clear Message Instead Of A Jump: If a new window can't be opened, CoolDock now tells you why instead of quietly switching you to another Space!

🐞 Bug Fixes

  • Notion New Window: Notion's New Window now really opens a new window instead of a new page!
  • Correct Badge Numbers: Badges like "99+" or "1,234" now show the right number instead of "1", and iPhone Mirroring labels no longer show up as a badge!
  • Badges Clear When Apps Quit: A badge count no longer stays stuck on the dock after you quit an app that isn't kept in the macOS Dock!
  • Running Dots Like The macOS Dock: Apps that keep running only in the menu bar after you close their windows (like Slack or WhatsApp) no longer show a running dot, so the dock no longer looks like they're open!

  • Docks Come Back After The Screensaver: With docks on several displays, every dock now comes back after the screensaver, screen lock or display sleep!
