Youtube - Don't Miss What's New, Fetch Automatically | Background Fetch in GitComet
New features
- Automatic background fetch across open repositories and worktrees. Disabled by default, with a configurable interval from 5 minutes to 24 hours. Repository tabs show incoming commit counts, and the Pull menu shows fetch status and failures.
- Bare repository support: browse history, files and diffs, manage remotes and linked worktrees, and convert a bare repository into a regular checkout.
- Edit commit messages from Commit details, including eligible older commits. Includes keyboard shortcuts and confirmation when rewriting published history.
- History focus: focus the graph on selected branches or remotes, with support for multiple selections and saved preferences.
- Hide remotes and tool-generated refs from history. Common agent checkpoints, review refs and Git bookkeeping refs are hidden by default, with individual controls and custom namespaces.
- Open branches in new worktrees directly from branch menus, or open the existing worktree when a branch is already checked out.
- Razor and Blazor syntax highlighting in editors and diffs.
Workflow improvements
- Removing a worktree now keeps its local branch by default; branch deletion is an explicit option.
- Pull fetches the selected upstream branch instead of fetching every remote branch. Use Fetch All to refresh other branches and prune stale refs.
- Added and deleted files show only their existing side, including image comparisons.
- Tag fetching has its own setting under Remotes, independent of tag visibility in history.
- Force-push confirmation stays tied to the remote commit originally shown, protecting against intervening remote changes.
- git-annex shows a confirmation banner for special remotes requiring location approval.
- File-editor Save and Cancel actions move to the bottom action bar.
Fixes
- Fixed CRLF text selection, wrapping and copying across diff, preview, editor and conflict views.
- Fixed Reflog rendering while the embedded terminal is open.
- Fixed file history for staged renames and rename detection for files moved without git mv.
- Fixed image previews for files without filename extensions.
- Combined diffs now require consecutive commits, avoiding misleading results for selections with gaps or across branches.
- Fixed staging and discard behavior when files are replaced by directories, protecting unrelated untracked and ignored files.
- Fixed commit diffs, file history and rebase lists when log.showSignature is enabled.
- Fixed worktree removal involving submodule changes and parsing under different Git locales.
Performance and extension support
- Reduced repeated Git process launches during diff operations and unnecessary work during pane resizing, undo/redo, syntax highlighting and status refreshes.
- Reduced per-line bookkeeping for large full-file previews.
- Extensions can reveal commits, open terminals at specific folders, list and activate terminal tabs, add history-mark menus and menu tooltips, and receive menu-close notifications.
- Updated dependencies, removed unused dependencies, and added contributor AI-policy documentation.
