Autonomiccs Platform Project

Welcome to the Autonomiccs platform wiki!

Introduction

This wiki presents the Autonomiccs platform, the project of an open source plugin for Apache CloudStack that enhances the management of cloud computing infrastructures. Also, you can find more about this project at the README file and by visiting our website.

Some topics presented at this wiki

Basic concepts

Please, go to Basic concepts for more details about topics as cloud computing; cloud computing orchestration; virtualization; workload consolidation, multi-agents systems and autonomic computing systems.

Heuristics

Understand heuristics and how to use them at the Heuristics page

Installation

The Installation page will guide you through the steps to install our autonomic platform in an environment managed by the Apache CloudStack.

Usage

After installing our plugin, you can see the Usage page to understand how to use an autonomic system in your cloud.

#Solution

Our software is a plugin that can be deployed in environments managed by the Apache CloudStack. The software monitors and acts upon cloud computing environments, pursuing the environment administrator goals (modeled according to a customized set of heuristics). We took great effort to ensure that this platform could be flexible, allowing to easily deploy different Heuristics at runtime.

Our platform deals with the size, dynamism and heterogeneity (different hypervisors and host configurations) of the cloud computing environment.

Founders

We are a group of researchers with more than three (3) years of experience in cloud computing management with Apache CloudStack.

The group pushed forward this project because this is the area of our academic work as M.Sc. and Ph.D. students; we are deeply involved in the research and development of cloud computing solutions. We are also engaged in the community improving the Apache CloudStack code base.

We find this project great because while we can help companies to save energy and optimize computing resource usage, we can reduce the pollution that is caused by energy generation. On top of that, we foresee the chance of evolving the research in this area.

Location

Florianópolis has one of the best universities of latin America (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina - UFSC); it also has a high-quality life index and is one of the most beautiful Brazilian cities. These are some of the factors that attracted tech industries and research groups for Florianópolis in the past decade.
