Prisoner of Azkaban 0.5.2 Beta

@poststructural poststructural released this 01 Nov 06:56
  • hppoa.exe starts on its own. Double-click it, use a shortcut, Quiver or the Barthes Launcher: the separate hppoa_launcher.exe is gone (delete it from an older install if you like). Every start writes hppoa_run.log beside the exe, with the crash report if the game crashes; send it with a problem report.
  • A new icon: volume III from the Barthes Launcher's shelf, drawn for the project (no game artwork).
  • Readme fixes: the Barthes Launcher download, and the settings and logs as they really are.

Beta: tested from New Game through the Hogwarts Express into the first level. Still standing entirely on MiddleDucky's Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets ports. Thank you, MiddleDucky.

Installing

The easiest way is the Barthes Launcher: it installs the build for your disc, unpacks and checks the disc, and keeps the port up to date.

By hand: download the zip for your disc (USA for the North American disc, PAL for the European one) and unzip it into a folder of its own. Make a game folder beside hppoa.exe holding your disc's extracted files (game\default.xbe; the Barthes Launcher or extract-xiso unpacks an .iso), then start hppoa.exe. Updating: unzip the new release over the old one; your hppoa.toml, saves\ and shadercache\ stay.

You need your own copy of the game. Nothing from the game is included.

Still standing entirely on MiddleDucky's Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets ports. Thank you, MiddleDucky.

New

  • The European (PAL) disc works. It boots to its language screen and plays New Game into the Hogwarts Express.
Each disc has its own download; the Barthes Launcher picks the right one for your disc.
  • PC Settings from the pause menu: while the game is paused, Back opens a page with the port's settings, drawn
over the game's own menu area. F10 now has the same tabs, rows and descriptions as the other two ports.

Fixes

  • The game's Xbox disk images now live beside it, in saves\xbox, instead of a folder shared by every port
(%LOCALAPPDATA%\xboxrecomp). Each port keeps its own, the folder stays portable, and a game started from a
packaged (MSIX) app no longer quits at boot because it can't open them.

Installing

The easiest way is the Barthes Launcher: it installs the build for your disc, unpacks and checks the disc, and keeps the port up to date.
By hand: download the zip for your disc (USA for the North American disc, PAL for the European one), put your disc's files or the .iso in a game folder beside the executables and start hppoa_launcher.exe. Updating: replace the files from the zip and keep your hppoa.toml, saves\ and shadercache\.

You need your own copy of the game. Nothing from the game is included.

Prisoner of Azkaban 0.5.0 Beta

@poststructural poststructural released this 31 Oct 00:40

The first public build of the Prisoner of Azkaban port, a beta. It stands entirely on MiddleDucky's
Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets ports (HP-PS-Xbox-Recomp,
HP-COS-Xbox-Recomp): the port layer, the renderer work, the
audio, the input, the launcher and much of the toolkit come from them. Thank you, MiddleDucky, wholeheartedly; none of
this exists without you.

What works

  • Boots to the title screen and its attract loop, and New Game plays through the Hogwarts Express into the first level.
  • Saving and loading.
  • 60 fps by default, with the game running at the right speed (the game clock's 30 fps floor is lifted); 30 fps
and higher caps are in the launcher and F10.
  • True 16:9: the 3D view is widened, menus, loading screens and in-game menus keep their 4:3 shape, and cutscenes
    keep their original letterbox.
  • The settings of the sibling ports in the launcher and F10: resolution up to 4K, render scale, MSAA, SMAA,
anisotropic filtering, windowed / borderless / fullscreen, keyboard and mouse with rebinding, controller remapping,
deadzones and vibration, and "Controller in background".
  • Sound, including the narrator's line on the "I solemnly swear" screen.

Known issues

  • Only the North American (NTSC-U) disc works.
  • Levels after the first have not been checked yet.
  • No settings pages inside the game's menus yet (use F10 or the launcher), and no "Quit To Desktop" entry in the
    menus (use Alt+F4).
  • Cutscene fast-forward and the start-up logo skip are listed as options but don't work yet.
  • Button prompts are always Xbox's; PlayStation and Switch pads work through Steam Input or DS4Windows.

Installing

The easiest way is the Barthes Launcher: it installs the build for your disc, unpacks and checks the disc, and keeps the port up to date.
By hand: download the zip for your disc (North American disc only for now), put your disc's files or the .iso in a game folder beside the executables and start hppoa_launcher.exe. Updating: replace the files from the zip and keep your hppoa.toml, saves\ and shadercache\.

You need your own copy of the game. Nothing from the game is included.
