Since the full C API is not by default exposed, individual portions must be added explicitly.

I've got a few PRs in this category that have been around for a little while now (and seems like from others too). There's really no way we can work around the missing API exposure short of building and deploying our own versions of this package, and that is pretty sub-optimal given what downstream users generally expect from python's pip/packaging.

Given that, what should our expectations be for getting these type of PRs merged? i.e., what is the project shooting for for how frequently to merge these basic but necessary PRs?

Also I've tried including tests when anything but the most basic addition is being done, so if anything like that can also help speed the integration please let us know.
