"fatal: could not reset submodule index"

I keep having issues installing the plugin with Lazy, I looked at the other issue but don't know what to do. When I do x then I to reinstall it in Lazy, I get this:

@Oneechan69 I made a "cleaned" repository that would theoretically take this repository's place. Could you check if it works for you? https://github.com/ColinKennedy/test-cursor-text-objects.nvim. You'd need to change the lazy plugin string from "ColinKennedy/test-cursor-text-objects.nvim" to "ColinKennedy/test-cursor-text-objects.nvim" but otherwise it should clone without errors. If it works for you I'll consider just hard-replacing this repository. I can retain past release tags in a separate branch.

Technical details

I guessed that the reason is for the error is because, at one point, there were submodules in this repository but I deleted them. And some part of lazy.nvim's plugin checkout process is erroring. I checked lazy.nvim's source code and I do see there's a `git checkout --progress --recurse-submodules` that could be the cause but I can't seem to reproduce it in the terminal outside of Neovim.

e.g. this works without erroring

git fetch --recurse-submodules --tags --force --progress

git checkout --progress --recurse-submodules

And as far as I can see that's roughly the commands that lazy.nvim is running.

So the routes forward as far as I can see it to try to consult the maintainer folke (unlikely to happen, he's been away from Neovim development for a while) or I guess to somehow destructively edit this repository so that it doesn't contain submodules in any part of its git history

The original commits and v1.* tags are retained in a separate branch, v1_backup

This should be good to close now
