There is a proposal to make Web Monetization a web standard. In the meantime this is a method for making it a possible reality.
The web monetization standard is a proposal to help generate income for content creators through micro transactions. Users load up an account with funds, and then as they browse the web they get prompted to give a small amount to content creators who have opted into the process.
The whole thing is private. Content creators do not know who has tipped them
- Sign up for an account on Coil (more platforms will be available in the future).
- Enable Web Monetization in the Toolbelt settings.
- 'Start Creating' on Coil, and then grab your key value. Enter the key in the module settings.
- Install the Coil browser plugin (for Chrome and Firefox). If this becomes a standard it will get built into your browser.
