OpenCode Android 5.0.1
OpenCode Android 5.0.1 is the maintenance release of the new 2.x edition,
an unofficial Android client for opencode.
It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the upstream project.
This edition uses its own package (com.opencode.android, versionCode 175) and
installs side by side with the classic 4.x app. The signing key is unchanged,
so it installs in place over 5.0.x. The agent still runs entirely on the phone:
no Termux, no PC, no root required.
Highlights
- opencode runtime updates now work in v2. The app follows the 2.x release
branch, shows a notification when a newer runtime is published, and installs
it from the notification. - Post-update health check fixed. The updater reads the runtime version from
/api/infowith Basic auth, the endpoint used by the 2.x server, so a runtime
that starts correctly is no longer rolled back as "did not start". - Magisk 31.1+ root flow. The app detects the Magisk version, explains the
manual Superuser+grant, opens the root manager and rechecks the permission
when you return. - Bundled runtime: opencode 2.2.0. The in-app updater can move it to the
latest 2.x after install; the APK itself ships 2.2.0. - Channel-aware updates. v2 only offers 5.x app releases and opencode 2.x
runtimes. It never offers the v1 channel.
Verified
On an Android 15 arm64 device, installed over the previous 5.0.x build and
updated the runtime from the notification: download, SHA-256 verification,
install, server restart and health check all succeeded. The server reports the
new runtime version and runs from files/runtime/<version>/opencode. Existing
sessions and settings were preserved.
Known limitations
- Only Android 15 arm64 has been tested. Android 8-14 (including the legacy
storage fallback), other OEMs, tablets and 16 KB-page devices are untested. - The first run installs the npm dependencies and the package index.
OpenCode Android 4.0.3
OpenCode Android 4.0.3 is an unofficial Android client for
opencode. It is not affiliated with,
endorsed by, or sponsored by the upstream project.
Maintenance release for the classic app (com.opencode.launcher.next,
versionCode 175). The package id and signing key are unchanged, so it installs
in place over 4.0.x. The agent still runs entirely on the phone: no Termux,
no PC, no root required.
Highlights
- Magisk 31.1+ root flow. The app detects the Magisk version, explains the
manual Superuser+grant, opens the root manager and rechecks the permission
when you return. Magisk 31.0 and older keep their normal prompt. - Project picker shows shared storage directly. With root, the app
bind-mounts/storage/emulated/0atHOME/sdcard, so the picker offers
sdcard/<folder>paths. Without root it falls back to relative paths, so the
folders still appear. - Bundled runtime: opencode 1.19.4. The in-app updater follows the 1.x
branch and shows a notification when a newer runtime is available. Tap the
notification to download the official binary, verify SHA-256 and install it
in place; the server restarts and rolls back if it does not answer. - Channel-aware updates. v1 only offers 4.x app releases and opencode 1.x
runtimes. The v2 channel is never offered from this app.
Verified
On an Android 15 arm64 device: installed and opened, the 1.x runtime update
notice appears, and the project picker lists the shared-storage folders
without root.
Known limitations
- Only Android 15 arm64 has been tested. Android 8-14, other OEMs, tablets and
16 KB-page devices are untested. - Magisk 31.0 and older could not be tested on real hardware here; that prompt
path is code-verified only. - The Android 8-10 storage fallback compiles but has not run on real hardware.
- SSID/BSSID need location, which is not requested.
dumpsys wifi,settings
andip/ifconfig/netstatstill need root. - Root is optional. On Magisk, Superuser access must allow apps (not ADB-only);
otherwisesuis hidden from the app namespace even thoughadb shell su
works. - The first run installs the npm dependencies and the package index.
OpenCode Android 5.0.0
OpenCode Android 5.0.0 is the first release of the new 2.x edition, an
unofficial Android client for opencode.
It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the upstream project.
This edition uses its own package (com.opencode.android, versionCode 174)
and installs side by side with the classic 4.x app. The agent still runs
entirely on the phone: no Termux, no PC, no root required.
Highlights
- New opencode 2.x interface. The app ships the 2.2.0 web UI and bundles
opencode 2.2.0 as a native ARM64 runtime. The in-app updater can move it
to 2.2.2 (or newer 2.x) after install; the APK itself ships 2.2.0. - Lighter on RAM. The 2.x runtime and interface use less memory than the
classic 1.x stack, so the phone stays responsive while the agent runs. - Two editions at once. v1 keeps
com.opencode.launcher.nextand its data;
v2 usescom.opencode.android, port 4099 and toolbox port 4199. Both can
run simultaneously. - Fresh, isolated storage. v2 has its own private data directory. v1
sessions and projects are not migrated automatically; keep v1 installed
if you need them. - Streamlined controls menu: Log, Restart server, Stop server, Check app
update, Options and Report problem (English). There is no Usage menu and
no auto-approve switch: the 2.x interface manages tool permissions itself. - Composer stays above the keyboard on first open and after toggling it,
including with long input. - Project picker hides the app's internal folders and offers
OpenCode.android-projectsas the shared workspace. - Channel-aware updates. v2 only offers 5.x app releases and opencode
2.x runtimes. It never offers the v1 channel. - Same signing key as v1, so future 5.x updates install in place.
Verified
On an Android 15 arm64 device, installed alongside OpenCode Android 4.0.2:
server healthy on 4099 and toolbox on 4199, keyboard behavior checked on first
open and with long text, project picker checked, controls menu checked (no
Usage entry), and both editions stayed up at the same time.
Known limitations
- Only Android 15 arm64 has been tested. Android 8-14 (including the legacy
storage fallback), other OEMs, tablets and 16 KB-page devices are untested. - First run needs internet (npm dependencies and the package index).
- Phones with 3 GB or less may see the server killed in the background.
OpenCode Android 4.0.2
OpenCode Android 4.0.2 is an unofficial Android client for
opencode. It is not affiliated with,
endorsed by, or sponsored by the upstream project.
Maintenance release for the classic app (com.opencode.launcher.next,
versionCode 174). It installs in place over 4.0.x: sessions, projects, runtime,
settings and the root grant are preserved. The agent still runs entirely on the
phone: no Termux, no PC, no root required.
Highlights
- Faster, smoother startup. The splash now waits until the web UI has
actually painted instead of disappearing ononPageFinishedand leaving a
black screen. A small early script warms the provider list and project git
metadata before the main bundle runs. - No more multi-second stall when opening a session. The runtime creates
its git repository beforeopencode serve, so the file watcher no longer
scans the filesystem root. - Runs side by side with v2. The internal toolbox port now derives from the
server port (4198 for v1, 4199 for v2), so both editions can run at the same
time without fighting over a socket. - Bundled runtime: opencode 1.19.4. The in-app updater can move it to
1.19.5 (or newer 1.x) after install; the APK itself ships 1.19.4. - Channel-aware updates. v1 only offers 4.x app releases and opencode
1.x runtimes. The v2 channel is never offered from this app. - Retry button follows the app language (Spanish/English), and the app
label is now simply OpenCode Android.
Verified
On an Android 15 arm64 device, installed over 4.0.1 as an in-place update:
same app id (10717), versionCode 174, existing projects and sessions intact,
server healthy on 4098 and toolbox on 4198. With v2 also running on 4099/4199,
both servers and both toolboxes stayed up simultaneously.
Known limitations
- Only Android 15 arm64 has been tested. Android 8-14, other OEMs, tablets and
16 KB-page devices are untested. - The Android 8-10 storage fallback compiles but has not run on real hardware.
- SSID/BSSID need location, which is not requested.
dumpsys wifi,settings

phones may see the server killed in the background.

OpenCode Android 4.0.1 is an unofficial Android client for
opencode. It is not affiliated with,
endorsed by, or sponsored by the upstream project.
Maintenance release for the standalone app (com.opencode.launcher.next,
versionCode 172). The agent still runs entirely on the phone: no Termux, no
PC, no root, no setup.
Changed
- Bundled opencode 1.19.4 (was 1.19.3). The app no longer offers an update
to 1.19.4 on every open because the bundled runtime is already current. - Removed the duplicate OpenCode AISDK provider and the injected default
model. The officialopencodeprovider now supplies the free models and
rotates them over time; the model you pick in the UI is respected.
Verified
On an Android 15 arm64 device: server healthy on 4098 reporting 1.19.4,
/config contains no model or provider override, /config/providers
returns only the official opencode provider with its 9 free models (default
big-pickle), and no update prompt appears.
Known limitations
- Only Android 15 arm64 has been tested. Android 8-14, other OEMs, tablets and
16 KB-page devices are untested. - The Android 8-10 storage fallback compiles but has not run on real hardware.

OpenCode Android 4.0.0
OpenCode Android 4.0.0 is an unofficial Android client for
opencode. It is not affiliated with,
endorsed by, or sponsored by the upstream project.
This is the standalone 4.0.0 build (com.opencode.launcher.next, versionCode
171). The agent runs entirely on the phone: no Termux, no PC, no root, no
setup. Install the APK, open it, grant storage access, and the chat starts.
- The bundled opencode 1.19.3 server runs natively inside the app.
git,
python3,grep,findand the rest of the core toolbox are launched
through/system/bin/linker64; proot is only used forpkg/aptand
scripts that need the conventional prefix. LD_LIBRARY_PATHis scoped to those launches, sodumpsys,pm,cmdand
other Android binaries load their own libraries.termux-wifi-connectioninforeports transport, IPv4/IPv6, DNS, routes,
gateway, RSSI, signal level, frequency, Wi-Fi standard, link speeds, DHCP and
all visible networks. SSID/BSSID are omitted because the app does not request
location.- Android 8-10: legacy storage permission,
requestLegacyExternalStorage, and
a private-folder fallback when Android 10 keeps scoped storage. Sharing
retries after the permission prompt. - Commands with dashes (
termux-*) are routed to proot instead of being
skipped. - The share sheet shows the real destination folder.
Verified on an Android 15 arm64 device: server healthy on 4098,
LD_LIBRARY_PATH empty in the agent shell, system commands work, Wi-Fi JSON
answers, and sharing creates a session and delivers the message.
Known limitations:
- Only Android 15 arm64 has been tested. Android 8-14, other OEMs, tablets and
16 KB-page devices are untested. - The Android 8-10 storage fallback compiles but has not run on real hardware.

OpenCode Android v4.0.0-beta.10 (Next)
Beta 10 removes the fallback panel from the Next line.
- The app now opens straight into the chat: a single splash while the agent starts, with no "Server closed / Start and open" panel at any point.
- If the agent does not answer, the splash says so, offers Retry, and keeps retrying on its own after 3, 5, 10, 20 and 30 seconds.
- The chat is the only screen; the server starts and the page reloads automatically when you open the app.
- Verified on a rooted test Android 15 arm64 device: cold start with the server stopped goes from the splash to the chat, with no panel.
OpenCode Android v4.0.0-beta.9 (Next)
Beta 9 stops the sandbox from breaking Android's own tools.
- dumpsys and similar system binaries failed with a linker error (libunwindstack/libzstd) because the prefix LD_LIBRARY_PATH leaked into them. They are now wrapped to clear it.
- sudo is a wrapper over the app's Magisk root, like su.
- The agent notes list the wrapped commands, remind it to retry with opencode-root on permission errors, and state that SMS, contacts, calls, camera, microphone, location, notifications, TTS and fingerprint are not available on purpose.
- Verified on a rooted test Android 15 arm64 device: sudo id returns uid 0 and opencode-root dumpsys battery shows the full battery state.
OpenCode Android v4.0.0-beta.8 (Next)
Beta 8 fixes root commands from the agent and adds battery cycles.
- The sandbox shipped util-linux su, which cannot elevate under proot: root attempts failed with 'Accessed denied/Trap' even on a rooted phone. su is now a wrapper over the app's real Magisk access.
- The agent gets notes (AGENTS.md) explaining opencode-root and the phone API.
- termux-battery-status now includes cycle_count when root is granted.
- Verified on a rooted test Android 15 arm64 device: the agent returned the battery cycle count.
OpenCode Android v4.0.0-beta.7 (Next)
Beta 7 of the Next build: root works on current Magisk.
- su is now found where Magisk really exposes it (/product/bin and the app PATH), not only in the old fixed locations.
- Root (su) row in Options shows ON once Magisk grants it, and the agent can run commands as root through the bundled toolbox.
- Verified end to end on a rooted test Android 15 arm64 device: Magisk prompt, uid=0 from the agent's shell, /status reports root on.
