v2.2.0 - Saved category improvements and self-hosted push notifications
Saved Categories
- Add icons to categories using SF Symbols
- Creating a new category opens a sheet with icon selection instead of a plain alert popup
- Add a badge that indicates what category the post is saved to (enable in Custom API settings)
- Add a "Change Category" button in the context menu/3 dot menu to change the category the post is saved to
Push Notifications
- Add support for changing the push notification server, using a forked version of apollo-backend to allow self-hosting
- Add secret token authentication for the push server
- Add check to ensure client bundle ID matches the push server's bundle ID
Important
To self-host a push notification server, you need to be enrolled in the Apple Developer Program and register for an APNs key (more information here). Without having this membership, the only type of notification that will work is the "Remind Me In..." notification, provided the below requirement is also fulfilled.
For push notifications to work on the client, your Apollo client must be signed with the proper entitlement for push notifications. This entitlement is not available for free Apple Developer accounts, so using a signing service or being enrolled in the Apple Developer Program is required.
- Currently confirmed working:
- Remind Me In... (no APNs key required)
- Unsure:
- Inbox
- Subreddit Watchers
- Trending Posts
Other
- Add subreddit icon next to subreddit name in the "Recently Read" page
- Respects "Show Subreddit Icons" in Settings > Appearance
