None of the 'Options' configurations work

I've been trying to customize this strategy from the default, but literally NONE of the options that I enter have het to make any difference in the dashboard, it's like they're being ignored. Am I missing something fundamental about this? Is there something overriding the 'Options'? Like for example I gradually started adding these, mostly following examples from the documentation, and still the dashboard is 100% stock:

I always add it, and it disappears after I click 'Save', still nothing ever changes on the dashboard

Yeah the 'strategy' part also disappears after a successful save. Although I was able to copy-paste from the documentation site the initial 2-liner to get the dashboard initially, now I get this error if I try to use the same 2-liner:

That's not the Raw configuration editor as mentioned in the manual.

Probably you missed one of the steps or did something different, but since you're taken to the Dashboard Editor, follow these steps:

1. Click the pencil-icon at the top-right of the page.
   This takes you to the Dashboard Editor (according to your image).
2. Click the 3-dots at the top-right of the Dashboard Editor.
3. Click Take Control.
4. Click Take Control.
5. Click the 3-dots at the top-right of the page.
6. Click Raw configuration editor.
7. At this editor, you apply the configuration.
8. Click Save.
9. Click the X-icon at the top-left.
10. Refresh the page (CTRL-F5).

So after taking control over the dashboard, will it automatically update anymore? Like if I was to add a new Area for example, would it show up? The warning prior to taking control seemed to suggest that it's a one-way street, and once I take over control I lose the automated nature of the Strategy

The process of adding and managing dashboards is a standard Home Assistant feature.
To clarify this, I will add a link to the official Home Assistant documentation within our setup guide.

It appears recent updates to Home Assistant's dashboard editor have changed the entry point for the Raw Configuration Editor. I intend to update the Basic Setup guide to reflect these steps:

1. Select the pencil icon in the top right corner of the dashboard.
2. If the Raw Configuration Editor does not open automatically:
   1. Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
   2. Select Raw configuration editor.
3. Replace the existing configuration with:

strategy:
  type: custom:mushroom-strategy
  options: null

4. Click Save.
5. Exit the editor by clicking the X-icon twice and select Done.

A page refresh (CTRL+F5) may be required.
Following this sequence ensures the dashboard remains in the correct editing mode for the strategy.

Please confirm if these steps now resolve the issue on your end so I can update the documentation.

Once you're able to control the dashboard with the Raw configuration editor, the dashboard is auto-populated by the Mushroom Strategy.
The warning implies you will drop Home Assistant's strategy to auto-populate the dashboard (which it didn't anyway).

Yes, these steps DO work when you're initially adding the strategy to a NEW empty dashboard.
BUT if someone follows the documentation and simply replaces the raw configuration contents with:

strategy:
  type: custom:mushroom-strategy

without the "options: null" line, they end up in my situation, which is VERY undesirable. Taking over the dashboard is the only way to reach the raw configuration editor now, and that raw configuration editor is PACKED with all the contents of the strategy-created dashboard.

I will record a video later to demonstrate the difference. It's surprising how important this one line is!

I've seen the difference and I don't know when the behavior of Home Assistant changed.
I had to figure out myself how the do a "basic setup" now.

HASS changed to interpretation of the YAML code somewhere around version
2025.6, making the options property mandatory for unmanaged dashboard.
