Download

Download for Mac (Tablet-App-for-Mac.dmg) — Apple silicon (tested)

  1. Open the downloaded file.
  2. Drag Tablet App for Mac onto the Applications folder.
  3. Open the app from Applications. If your Mac warns you, right-click the app and choose Open. If there is no Open button, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.

If you already have Version 7 or later, you can use Check for updates now in the app instead of downloading by hand.

The user manual for Version 17 is attached as a PDF.

Permissions after an update

Each new build can look like a new app to macOS. Turning a permission off and on again is often not enough. Remove Tablet App for Mac from Input Monitoring and from Accessibility (or Device Control and Data Access), then add it again — once in each list — so macOS recognises it.

What is new

  • Going back to Version 15 is safe for the touch ring. Before, going back to Version 15, changing a ring setting there and updating again turned every ring mode backwards. The app now puts every ring table (All, every app and every pen, including the app open on screen) in the layout Version 15 reads before it installs Version 15 or older. Version 15 itself still runs ring modes backwards, as it always did; updating again puts them right.
  • Wheel thresholds go to the table on screen (All, or the selected app).
  • Photoshop: the Smooth zoom tip and the manual say what to do when the ring moves the canvas up and down instead of zooming: untick Zoom with Scroll Wheel in Photoshop's Settings › Tools, or use Keystroke… with ⌘= / ⌘−.

Tested as Version 17 BETA 2 before release (including going back to Version 15 and updating again). Source: tag v17 (branch devin/v17-beta1 = BETA 2 + the updated manual, pull request #8).

@devin-ai-integration devin-ai-integration released this 28 Oct 00:32

BETA: not tested yet. Help us test it, then tell us how it went with Feedback on Home or on the website.

What is new in Version 17 BETA 2

  • Going back to Version 15 now converts every app's ring settings. In BETA 1, if an app's tile (for example Photoshop) was open on the Touch ring page when you went back, that app's ring settings were saved again in the new layout just before Version 15 started, so its ring turned backwards in Version 15. Now all of them are converted.

Also in Version 17 (from BETA 1)

  • Going back to Version 15 keeps the ring the right way round. Changing a ring setting in Version 15 and then updating again no longer reverses every ring mode.
  • Photoshop zoom tip: if the ring's Smooth zoom moves the canvas up and down instead of zooming, untick Zoom with Scroll Wheel in Photoshop's Settings › Tools. The tip under Speed and the manual now say so.
  • Wheel thresholds on the Touch ring page go to the table on screen (All, or the selected app).

Everything from Version 16 is included.

The user manual for Version 17 BETA 2 is attached as a PDF. The full list of supported Wacom tablets: https://digitalgroceries.github.io/tablet-app-for-mac/tablets/

Install

  • In the app: Check for updates now on Home, then Try Version 17 BETA 2. Or download Tablet-App-for-Mac.zip below, open it and drag Tablet App for Mac into Applications.
  • After installing, remove the app once and add it again in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring and Accessibility.
  • To go back at any time: Check for updates now, then Go back to Version 16, or Earlier versions… for Version 15.

Permissions after an update

Each new build can look like a new app to macOS. Turning a permission off and on again is often not enough. Remove Tablet App for Mac from Input Monitoring and from Accessibility (or Device Control and Data Access), then add it again — once in each list — so macOS recognises it.

What is new

  • The touch ring turns the right way. Before, a clockwise turn zoomed out, made the brush smaller and rotated the canvas the wrong way on most Wacom rings. Your ring modes are turned the right way round when the app starts; click Save once to keep it.
  • Ring settings stay changed. With an app selected in the Application row, the On ticks, Function menus and Speed sliders no longer snap back.
  • Speed works everywhere. Smooth zoom is much slower at low Speeds (1 = one zoom step every 180° of ring, 50 about every 30°, 100 on every ring step), and Speed 1 is possible. In apps other than Photoshop and Affinity, smooth modes send their keys at their Speed.
  • Affinity: Smooth zoom (Option + scroll wheel) and Smooth rotate (⌘ + scroll wheel). For rotate, first turn on Enable canvas rotation with ⌘+scroll wheel in Affinity's Settings › Tools.
  • Photoshop: if Smooth zoom moves the canvas up and down instead of zooming, untick Zoom with Scroll Wheel in Photoshop's Settings › Tools.
  • Pen scroll (contributed by ftrabbold): hold a pen button or an ExpressKey and move the pen to scroll, like Wacom's Pan/Scroll. Find it in the button editor under Scroll › Move pen to scroll.
  • Better support for Wacom tablets with limited support (not tested on these tablets yet): the Intuos Pro (PTH-460, PTH-660, PTH-860) ring turns the right way; touch strips on Intuos3 and on the Cintiq 21UX, 12WX and 22HD; the Cintiq 13HD centre button as ExpressKey 9; the Bamboo Fun ring; the Wacom CTK-4120 is newly listed.
  • The Supported tablets list leaves out notes for other operating systems and shows the new status Questionable.
  • The update window is translated in all 8 languages.

What is new

  • Earlier versions… on Home: any version, stable or BETA, can go back to one of the two stable versions before it.
  • After an update, the old driver no longer keeps running, so Home no longer shows a "user-supplied" driver.
  • Setup no longer shows macOS's own permission box on top of System Settings (the permission was asked twice).
  • The app and its help now say "driver" everywhere.
  • New wording in this version is in English in every language for now; translations follow.

What is new

  • Check for updates now lets you choose: the newest stable version, or try a BETA (not tested yet). On a BETA, Go back returns you to the stable version.
  • Separate settings for each pen: each extra pen gets its own tile in the Tool row, with its own tip, eraser and side-button settings.
  • Tablet › Application +: add several apps at once with Command-click.
  • New + and − buttons on the Device and Tool rows.
  • Fixed: setup no longer opens at every start because of an empty Wacom folder left in Applications.
  • Add a tablet now says "Connect the tablet to your Mac"; the "Feedback is read once a week" line is gone from Home.
  • New wording in this version is in English in every language for now; translations follow.

BETA: not tested yet. Help us test it, then tell us how it went with Feedback on Home or on the website.

What is new in Version 16 BETA 2

Touch ring fixes, from a test of BETA 1:

  • The ring turns the right way. In BETA 1 and earlier, a clockwise turn zoomed out, made the brush smaller and rotated the canvas the wrong way on most Wacom rings. Your ring modes are turned the right way round when the app starts; click Save once to keep it.
  • Ring settings stay changed. With an app selected in the Application row, the On ticks, Function menus and Speed sliders snapped back. Changes now go to that app's own ring settings.
  • Affinity: Smooth zoom (Option + scroll wheel) and Smooth rotate (⌘ + scroll wheel) work over Affinity's window. For rotate, first turn on Enable canvas rotation with ⌘+scroll wheel in Affinity's Settings › Tools.

Everything from Version 16 BETA 1 is included: pen scroll (contributed by ftrabbold), better support for Wacom tablets with limited support, and the updated Supported tablets list.

Note for PhotoCraft users: curves drawn quickly come out as straight pieces in PhotoCraft with any tablet driver and with a trackpad. That is a known PhotoCraft issue (number 2138 in its own issue list), not this app's.

What is new in Version 16

Pen scroll (contributed by ftrabbold): hold a pen button or an ExpressKey and move the pen to scroll, like Wacom's Pan/Scroll. Find it in the button editor under Scroll › Move pen to scroll. The cursor stays still and the tip doesn't click.

Better support for Wacom tablets with limited support. None of this has been tested on these tablets yet, so feedback from their owners is very welcome:

  • Intuos Pro (PTH-460, PTH-660, PTH-860): the Touch Ring turns the right way, with its zero at the left like other Wacom rings.
  • Intuos3 (PTZ-430, PTZ-431W, PTZ-630, PTZ-631W, PTZ-930, PTZ-1230, PTZ-1231W), Cintiq 21UX (DTZ-2100, DTK-2100), Cintiq 12WX (DTZ-1200W) and Cintiq 22HD (DTK-2200, DTH-2200): touch strips, with Up and Down keys on the Touch ring page.
  • Cintiq 13HD (DTK-1300, DTH-1300): the centre button of the Rocker Ring, as ExpressKey 9.
  • Bamboo Fun (CTE-450, CTE-650): the Touch Ring.
  • Wacom CTK-4120: newly listed.

Supported tablets list: notes that only apply to other operating systems are gone, and the new status Questionable is shown.

Languages: the update window's texts are now translated in all 8 languages.
