Better
- Handwriting removal keeps the print. A new handwriting network: where a pen line runs through printed text, far more of the print is kept (97% of it, up from 90%), and it finds writing on real exam photos at least as well as before. Pages you've already cleaned are redrawn after updating.

Better
- Handwriting removal leaves no outline. A removed pen stroke used to leave its soft gray edge behind, so the writing still showed as a faint outline, worst on grayish scans. That edge is now lifted to the paper's shade. Printed letters a pen line ran through are kept more often, too. Pages you've already cleaned are redrawn after updating.
- The code scanner reads barcodes. A barcode held level in front of an upright phone wasn't read before; it is now.
- Clean up shows everything. The switches wrap onto a second line instead of scrolling off the edge, and Apply to other pages… sits right under them.
- No more automatic document names. Scans and imports keep the name they're made with.

- Comprehension passages go with their questions. In Split into questions, a heading between two questions now starts the next one's page, so the passage under it comes with the questions it belongs to instead of trailing on the end of the question before. Headings it knows include "Section B", "Text 2", "Read the following passage", "Questions 16–20", "三 阅读理解二", "A 组 阅读下文，完成第16至20题" and "Bahagian B". A heading with a line or two of instructions under it moves as one. Maths papers split exactly as before.

- Split into questions works on far more real test papers. Checked against 334 past papers across subjects:
- Questions that open with a diagram (the number alone on its line) are found.
- A number the reader missed no longer breaks the run.
- "3(a)", "2.(a)(i)" and "9a)" style numbers count.
- Mark tables on the cover and numbered answer lines ("1 ……") no longer get mistaken for questions.
- Page headers, footers, page numbers and blank pages are left out of each question.
- The room to answer in is kept.
- The last question follows onto the next page until "End of paper".
- In Chinese papers, the passages with numbered blanks come along as their own page.
- Background work shows. A page being cleaned up or redrawn (handwriting removal, say) shows a small "Removing handwriting…" pill, and its document says so in the list. The clean-up preview shows what it's working on too. Nothing blocks the screen.
- Clean up is easier to use. It's laid out like Sign and draw: the things it removes on its own are switches shown as pills, ticked when on, and the brushes and their sizes sit underneath without scrolling.
- The bottom bar stands out. It's a shade lighter than the cards with a thin edge, and the list fades out under it.

Better
- Handwriting removal is about a fifth faster, with the same results. The page goes through the handwriting network in bigger pieces that line up with how the network sees the page, so less work is repeated where pieces overlap and the pieces join up without seams.
- Firmer ticks on the scan mode wheel. The wheel now uses the vibration motor at full strength: a hard knock as each mode passes the middle and a heavier one when it lands. It still stays off if touch vibration is turned off in your phone's settings.

Better
- Handwriting removal rebuilt. A new network on the phone finds handwriting pixel by pixel instead of judging whole lines. Pen in any colour and pencil come out, including notes in margins and tables, while answer lines, ruled lines, table borders, pictures and printed text stay. Tested on 100 real marked exam photos, it finds handwriting with 90% overlap, and 96% of what it removes is really handwriting.
- Coloured print stays. Red, blue or green printed text is no longer taken for pen.
- The scan mode wheel ticks as it turns and clicks when it lands on a mode, so you can feel the change. Both follow your phone's touch sound and vibration settings.
Pages you already cleaned are redrawn with the new handwriting removal the first time you open the app.

Better
- Pages are found on real photos more often, and more exactly. Tested on 113 real phone photos of pages, the outline now matches the page closely (90% overlap or more) on 74% of them, up from 59% in 0.8.6, and photos where no page is found dropped from 19 to 5.
- A page held up by hand is found even when a hand hides part of one side.
- White paper on a pale desk, or among other things on a desk, is found more often.
- Outlines sit closer to the paper's edge. They used to be pulled slightly inside the page so the scan showed no desk; they're now pulled in half as far.
ID cards are found as before.

Oscanner 0.8.6
Fixed
- Removing handwriting no longer erases printed lines. In 0.8.5, answer lines with writing on them, and the ruled lines on a photo of curled paper, could be taken for lines drawn by hand and removed. A line now only counts as drawn by hand if it trembles along its length; printed lines are straight or bend smoothly with the paper. On test pages, ruled lines kept went from 34% to 100% on a worksheet with answers, and from 4% to over 99% on a curled page.
- Small printed marks stay: a + between printed words, colons, full stops.
- Pages you already cleaned are redone once, in the background, the first time the app starts after updating.
New
- Join photos of a poster or plan. Shoot it in overlapping parts as ordinary pages, then Edit → Pages, choose them and Join. They're joined into one page, put before the parts (which stay until you delete them). Shots that don't overlap are refused with a hint.

What's new
- Removing handwriting takes out lines drawn under the words, even where they touch the letters, along with rings and scribbles. Printed underlines, table lines, ruled writing lines and chart axes are straight and stay. A pen line drawn very straight can still pass for a printed one and stay.
- A printed letter next to a table border is no longer taken for handwriting.
Pages you cleaned with 0.8.4 find their print again the next time you open Clean up.

Oscanner 0.8.4
What's new
- Removing handwriting keeps print a pen line touches. Underlined or circled words, and lines with a scribble across them, used to be erased along with the pen. Now the printed words stay. Underlines running right under the words can still remain. Pages cleaned before this find their print again the next time you open Clean up.
- List bullets stay when handwriting is removed.
- Clean up → Apply to… works like Filters: copy this page's clean-up switches (on and off, Edges included) to the other pages you pick.
- Old photos: faint dust and short scratches on plain ground are removed, a stain brushed over is filled with picture rather than paper, and torn edges are filled from what's beside them, also on a checked cloth or wooden desk.
Fixes
- Sharing, printing or saving a PDF could fail with "Something went wrong" once a page's text had been read, which Clean up triggers. The PDF's text layer couldn't find its font in release builds.
- Sharing a PDF while clean-up was still finishing on other pages could fail too; it now waits for the clean-up.
