Just tested this with an actual tarball, and it seems to work. The Lmod caches for 2025.06 are now generated using the Lmod from the 2023.06 compat layer, and that allowed me to use them with Lmod 8.6.19 on my Ubuntu laptop. Also @terjekv (who reported the issue on Slack and at https://gitlab.com/eessi/support/-/issues/212) confirmed on Slack that it works for him now.
