FMTOWNS CD games setup
In order to play fmtowns games you will need the following:
- Drop fmtowns bios on /storage/roms/fmtownsux . You will need to use the latest MAME bios fmtownsux is the mandatory one you can use add aditionaly also fmtownshr, fmtownsftv and fmtowns
- Name the game folder as described on /storage/roms/bios/mame/hash/fmtowns_cd.xml file for instance ssf2
- Drop the chd file on the game folder for instance super street fighter ii - the new challengers (japan).chd (check that the name should match the fmtowns_cd cd file)
- Create a new file called whatever.cmd for instance Super Street Fighter 2.cmd
- The file should have the model of Fmtowns computer fmtownsux, fmtownshr, fmtownsftv etc recomended fmtownsux , the ram size, the type of pad, the cd name and the root location
fmtownsux -ramsize 6M -pad1 towns6b -cdrom ssf2 -rp /storage/roms/fmtownsux
Remember to map port2 to the mouse. Go to settings, Input, Retrobind, Port2 Controls and select your mouse in mouse index
- Update emulationstation and you will be able to run it.
CAVEAT
There are some games like alltynex, rainbow island, ktiger that needs special setup.

- You will need to create the alltynexhr.cmd file
fmtownshr -ramsize 6M -cdrom /storage/roms/fmtownsux/alltynex/alltynex.chd -pad1 townspad -pad2 mouse -rp /storage/roms/fmtownsux
- You will need to have a mouse plug in to navigate in the TownOS to select Altynex game. Sometimes is needed to set it up in the Retro Arch menu => input
- You will need to create the rainbow.cmd as follows
fmtownshr -ramsize 2M -flop1 "/storage/roms/fmtownsux/rbisland/disk1.hdm" -pad1 townspad -pad2 mouse -cdrm "/storage/roms/fmtownsux/rbisland/rainbow islands - the story of bubble bobble 2 - extra version (japan).chd" -ui_active
It is mandatory to have a special TownOS disk to run the game called disk1.hdm
- Go to the Cd Icon
- Click on the Top Left screen Icon Box where you can read Icon. It will toggle to a disk.
- Double Click on Autoexec.bat
fmtownsux -ramsize 2M -flop1 "/storage/roms/fmtownsux/ktiger/disk1.hdm" -ui_active
It is mandatory to have a special TownOS disk to run the game called disk1.hdm
*It will open the TownsOS operating system, if not click select + X button on your pad, go to file manager, click on cd-rom and select empty stot. Close everything and restart the system. *You should be now in TownsOS then click select + X button on your pad, go to file manager, click on cd-rom and select ktyger.chd located on /storage/roms/fmtownsux/ktiger. *Go back to TownsOS leaving Mame menu. *Select Cd icon and select the tiger icon
It's a very bad port so per default it has a bad performance. You can try to overclock to 32 in settings menu and it is needed to be run with this command
fmtownshr -ramsize 28M mahoudai -pad1 townspad -rp /storage/roms/fmtownsux
