Current Homework: 2 - Initial Proposal

Product Name TBD: A Digital Level

The project we have decided to move forward with is a digital level using an accelerometer. The microcontroller will be an Atmel ATmega328. Depending on the inclination of the level when it is placed on a surface, indicator LEDs will be lit up in imitation of the bubble on an analog level. There will be a power switch on the side to turn it on and off, and it will be powered with lithium ion batteries.

Requirement checklist:

  • 1 Sensor? Accelerometer
  • 1 Actuator? Multiple LEDs
  • Digital or Analog Processor? ATmega328
  • Safe? Yes
  • Schematic in progress using EagleCAD
  • PCB will be correctly sized
    • May have second PCB for LED assembly
  • PCB designed from scratch
  • >= 25% surface mount components: 100% will be surface mount
    • Components will all be larger than 0603
  • Will be built by our hands
  • Enclosure will be 3D printed
