FerMatter 0.11.0 Windows Preview 5
FerMatter 0.11.0 Preview 5 includes the latest desktop fixes and the new update interface. This is a preview, not a stable-support declaration.
Changes
- Keep Library and Source toolbar positions consistent, with compact controls and platform-appropriate window/menu appearance.
- Customize Library extraction rules, including excluding math inside tables, without changing source documents.
- Add the Updates panel and optional daily checks (enabled by default; existing opt-outs remain off). Preview 5 is installed manually or through the package manager; the stable in-app update feed remains inactive pending platform validation.
- Adopt the permanent
io.github.fermatter.fermatterapp identity while retaining existing projects, settings, drafts, Instant history and legacy storage paths. - Preserve Windows menus after closing Instant, keep single SVG clipboard images as vectors in LibreOffice Impress, and queue launches received during startup.
- Restore SVG source as an editable draft and wait for explicit Render before compilation.
- Bound ZIP import metadata/decompressed output, improve saved-data recovery, and fix Linux launcher icon discovery.
Install and update
Use the Download page for the platform installer and package-manager commands. Existing Preview 4 installations need this manual/package-manager update before the Updates interface becomes available. Existing project folders and saved data are retained.
Platforms and validation
- macOS: Apple Silicon, macOS 14 deployment target; app ad hoc signed, DMG/PKG unsigned and not notarized. Native testing was on macOS 26.5.2; older OS and clean-account opening prompts remain unverified. If macOS offers per-app approval, follow Apple's opening instructions. Keep Gatekeeper enabled.
- Windows: Windows 11 x64 preview, unsigned NSIS installer with the offline WebView2 runtime. Windows Server CI checks installation, previous-preview replacement, startup, real compilers and data-preserving removal. Native Windows 11 observations cover the preceding source candidate; final clean-account/security prompts remain a release gate.
- Ubuntu: experimental Ubuntu 24.04 amd64 DEB and signed APT repository. Physical Ubuntu 24.04.5 / GNOME 46 X11 validation covered rendering, saved-data replacement and SVG insertion into Impress. Wayland, direct drag, native image clipboard and remaining updater/recovery/removal cases are not established. Native image clipboard and recoverable project deletion remain unavailable.
TeX/Typst and PDF tools are external. See requirements, resolved issues, and the validation record. Stable release gates remain in #134.
Production npm/Cargo audits report no entries classified as vulnerabilities; informational unmaintained-dependency warnings and the known Linux GTK glib 0.18.5 unsoundness advisory remain recorded. Linux stays experimental.
Source: 7798fde. The exact unsigned EXE passed Windows Server CI, including replacement of published Windows Preview 4, installed compilers, startup and data-preserving uninstall. See build-info.json, validation.json and SHA256SUMS.txt. No new native Windows 11/clean-account checks are claimed.

FerMatter 0.11.0 for Windows
Windows now defaults to a FerMatter folder directly under the local user profile (%USERPROFILE%\FerMatter). It is preselected during first launch and created when setup finishes. The default does not use the Documents location that OneDrive can redirect. Existing saved project locations are retained.
Quit FerMatter and run the EXE to update. Projects, saved shortcuts, templates and drafts are retained. Rendering tools are installed separately; see Download.
Validation includes 252 frontend tests, 152 Rust tests, all 53 real-compiler sample cards, Windows setup UI, and installation/replacement/startup/removal with installed rendering tools. Implementation and validation.
FerMatter 0.11.0 for Windows
Windows shortcut settings now reject unsupported or reserved combinations before saving, using the same rules as the stored settings. Custom assignments and Ctrl+Tab / Ctrl+Shift+Tab navigation are retained.
Quit FerMatter, run the EXE, and open FerMatter from the Start menu. Projects, templates, saved shortcuts and drafts are retained. Rendering tools are installed separately; see Download.
Validation includes 248 frontend tests, 150 Rust tests, all 53 synthetic compiler cards, native Windows shortcut recording and navigation, and installer replacement/startup/removal with actual rendering tools. Implementation and validation.
FerMatter 0.11.0 for Windows
FerMatter 0.11.0 for Windows 11 x64.
- Remove the extra space above Windows workspace controls and keep native window backgrounds aligned with the selected appearance.
- Open project setup and the four bundled demos from Instant.
- Include Library extraction settings and export the card targeted by the context menu.
- Identify Windows project folders by their native file IDs so undo cannot act on a replacement folder with the same creation time.
- Keep unchanged settings recovery files in place to prevent sharing errors during repeated rendering and exports.
Run the EXE and open FerMatter from the Start menu. LaTeX/Typst tools are installed separately; see Download.
Projects, templates, drafts and settings are retained. Older Windows project-action history is preserved; undo is refused when the folder identity cannot be verified. To update, quit FerMatter and run the new installer.
Validation includes the real rendering tools, all 53 synthetic cards, source preservation, and installer replacement/startup/removal in a normal Windows desktop process. Implementation and validation: desktop corrections, settings recovery.
FerMatter 0.11.0 Windows Preview 1 (unsigned)
FerMatter 0.11.0 Windows Preview 1 is an unsigned preview for Windows 11 x64.
- Browse and render LaTeX/Typst equations and TikZ/CeTZ drawings; keep presentation variants separate from project source files.
- Use Ctrl shortcuts, Windows clipboard images/SVG files, Source editing, Instant and document PDFs.
- Install for your Windows account with the setup EXE. The installer includes offline WebView2 setup; Node.js, Rust and Python are unnecessary to run FerMatter.
- Windows code editors use Consolas and the client area fills the native window corners. Library/Source action rows now share the same inset across desktop platforms.
Install and rendering tools
- Download
FerMatter_0.11.0_windows_x64_preview.1_unsigned_setup.exeand verify its SHA-256 against SHA256SUMS.txt. - Run the installer and open FerMatter from the Start menu. Choose a project folder on first launch.
- Install the rendering tools for your projects, then check Settings → Tools:
| Projects | External tools |
|---|---|
| Typst / CeTZ | Typst CLI; Windows validation used Typst 0.15.1 |
| LaTeX / TikZ | TinyTeX or TeX Live with latexmk, preview, pdfcrop, project packages and SyncTeX; Poppler (pdftocairo, pdfinfo) |
TinyTeX and TeX Live include the Windows Perl and Ghostscript helpers. See Windows setup and commands and requirements. Existing compiler installations can be selected in Settings; tools are external to the app.
This installer has no Authenticode signature and may trigger SmartScreen or an unknown-publisher warning. Check the release and checksum before deciding to continue; keep Windows security protections enabled. Microsoft's SmartScreen guidance.
Compatibility and limits
- Saved projects, presentation variants, drafts and settings remain outside the installation folder. Windows application data retains
%APPDATA%\Slide Math\Rust Preview\and the existing bundle identity. - Quit FerMatter from its tray menu before installing a newer preview. Updates are manual; this preview has no automatic updater.
- Windows 10, ARM64 and 32-bit packages have not been validated. This is not a signed stable release.
- Recoverable project deletion, screen color sampling and local CLI/MCP are unavailable on Windows. Manage project deletion through File Explorer.
- IME, PowerPoint/cross-application drag and clean-machine compatibility remain unverified. Physical Undo/Redo was not conclusively retested after removal of the Windows native menu accelerators. Use the included synthetic demos to check your workflow.
- macOS and Ubuntu downloads retain their existing releases and channels. The shared toolbar layout is included in the source; macOS/Ubuntu visual confirmation remains separate from Windows validation.
Windows validation covered all 53 synthetic LaTeX/Typst/TikZ/CeTZ cards, image exports, PDF navigation, Instant/context restoration and source preservation. Native checks confirmed onboarding, automatic tools, Typst cards, copying, PDF navigation/highlight and Source save. Compiler tests and clipboard-format checks do not establish receiving-application behavior.

FerMatter 0.11.0 Preview 4
FerMatter 0.11.0 Preview 4 (build 15) includes the latest workspace and documentation changes.
- Compact, aligned Library/Source toolbars, without repeated pane headings.
- Pin, appearance and settings controls grouped beside the project tabs; the same separation in Instant.
- Shorter Edit labels; Library edits still create presentation variants and Source edits real project files.
- Experimental signed APT distribution for Ubuntu 24.04 amd64.
- Updated security dependencies and reorganized guides/download instructions.
macOS: Apple Silicon, macOS 14 or later. This preview is ad hoc signed and has not been notarized by Apple. First launch may require approval in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. TeX/Typst tools remain separate installations.
Homebrew:
brew update
brew upgrade --cask fermatter/tap/fermatterUbuntu: after the one-time repository setup on the download page:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install --only-upgrade fermatterApplication replacement preserves the existing bundle identity and saved-data paths. There is no in-app update downloader. Linux remains experimental; physical desktop/Wayland, native image clipboard and cross-application drag have not been established by automated checks.
The clean-Mac notarization/final-artifact checklist remains unverified; this release is a prerelease. See build-info.json for the tested source commit and validation scope.
