the error was: "failed unmarshalling build config cloudbuild.yaml: repeated string fields containing one element must be specified like ['foo'], not 'foo'"
(useful in server render use cases)
now that we understand the api better, I'm breaking the components and hooks into per-product folders so that they're easier to read/test/maintain
