Block Types
Ideas for objects in the environment are:
Spikes
A simple type of object which kills the player on contact. Spikes should not destroy totems.
Breakable Blocks
A tile which can be destroyed. Could be made of loose sediment or glass. Things that can break them include:
- Player's roll: destroys on contact from the side
- Heavy boxes: destroys on contact from above
- Bullets: destroys on contact from any direction, but also destroys the bullet
Heavy Boxes
An object which has the same physics as a totem, except it cannot be picked up or pushed.
Automatic Moving Platforms
A moving platform which moves on a track on its own at a set speed. Any objects which are subject to gravity, including the player, totems, and heavy boxes, will move with them.
Bullet Cannons
A cannon which periodically fires bullets affected by gravity. The bullets are destroyed when touching a surface. The bullets are hazardous and will kill the player.
Laser Cannons
A cannon which fires a laser in a cardinal direction. The laser travels continuously until hitting a surface. The lasers are hazardous and will kill the player. The laser can stay permanently active or periodically turn on and off. The cannon can also be electricity based, turning on or off depending on its charge.
Harpoon Cannons
A launcher which fires a one tile long horizontal harpoon which flies through the air affected by gravity. When the harpoon hits a wall on the side, it sticks to it and produces a semisolid platform. The player will die if they collide with the tip of the harpoon while airborne.
Trampoline Plants
A one-tile wide flower which launches objects upward on collision. Objects maintain their horizontal momentum when striking the trampoline. Objects that can be launched include:
- The player
- Totems
- Heavy boxes
- Bullets
Vine Blocks
A block of loose foliage which can solidify and become a solid block.
Plant-based Moving Platforms
A semisolid platform with a starting position and an ending position. The platform is by default at the starting position and moves to the ending position whenever being affected by a growth region.
Buttons
A flat object which can be pressed by contact with a solid object. Pressing the button will cause a receiver of electricity to charge or uncharge. Things that can push buttons include:
- The player
- Totems
- Heavy boxes
- Bullets
- Harpoons
- Lasers
- Moving Platforms
Electricity-based Moving Platforms
An automatically moving platform which does not move whenever uncharged.
