Port latest changes from gbx util-expr

Port latest changes made to GBX gitbook/util-expr introduced in https://github.com/GitbookIO/gitbook-x/pull/19397 before moving GBX util-expr to this published gitbook/expr package.

After merging/publishing these changes, gitbook/util-expr in GBX is going to be replaced with gitbook/expr via https://github.com/GitbookIO/gitbook-x/pull/19442
