Gladys Assistant Installer v0.1.0

This is the first production image of the Gladys Assistant installer for amd64 mini-PCs. It is built on Ubuntu Server 26.04 LTS. Flash it to a USB drive, boot the machine, plug in Ethernet, and the installer sets up Gladys on its own.

Highlights

• Guided installation: the Ubuntu installer asks only for the language, keyboard layout and administrator account. If the machine has a single internal disk, the storage screen is skipped.
• Automatic first boot: Docker is installed and the latest gladysassistant/gladys:v5 image is pulled and started. Progress shows on the screen and on a local web page, in the language you chose.
• Ready to use: open Gladys at http://gladysassistant.local, or at the IP address shown on the console.
• Automatic updates: Watchtower keeps Gladys up to date, and Ubuntu installs security updates automatically.
• Secure by default: the image contains no built-in account or password, and the root account is locked. OpenSSH is available.
• Resilient setup: if there is no Internet connection, setup waits and continues once the network is back. It also recovers from a power loss.
• Time zone is detected automatically on first boot.

Requirements

• An amd64 machine booting in UEFI mode
• An internal SSD, NVMe or eMMC drive. Its contents will be erased.
• Wired Ethernet with Internet access

Known limitations

• There is no Wi-Fi setup. Ethernet is required.
• Kernel updates only take effect after a manual sudo reboot, because the machine never reboots on its own.
