Version 0.9.7 of the Android port of ZeldaWWHDRecomp: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U, USA, Europe and Japan) as a native Android app.

What's new in 0.9.7

Updating from 0.9.6 takes seconds: no new preparation of the game code, and save states keep working.

Talks and shops by touch

With the Flexible touch controls and context buttons (the "new touch controls" answer at the first start):

  • Talks without buttons: no button shows in a talk; tap anywhere on the picture to go on.
  • Hold to go on in talks (Controls › Touch, on): keep a finger down and the talk goes on by itself, page by page, and stops at a question. Fast forward while held (off) speeds it up as well.
  • Answers are given by touching the line; no A or B shows there any more.
  • Shops (Beedle, Masked Beedle, Zunari) show only B, which leaves the shop. A touch goes straight to an item, even one far along the shelf; items off the picture come into view by themselves; with an item held up, a touch on it buys and a touch anywhere else puts it back. The "buy it?" question opens by itself after the price. With a controller, B at that question answers "no".

More of Link in the button icons

  • Speak: Link talking, a speech balloon popping up beside him.
  • Check / Look: Link peering through a magnifying glass.
  • Leaving a shop: Link walking out through a sunlit doorway.
  • Jump attack: a leap with the sword drawn.
  • Let go from a ladder, a wall of vines or a ledge. While climbing, the buttons that can't be used there (Wind Waker, first person, sword, jumps) hide.
  • The boat, with the King of Red Lions: set sail, the sail going down, fast / normal, stop, get in, get out.
  • A new action stands out: when A offers something it didn't show just before (Open, Lift, Speak, Check, Throw ...), it pops up with two golden rings.

Picto Box

  • With album pages, the picto chooser (Carlov, Lenzo, a postbox) turns the pages too.
  • The chooser shows only A (choose) and B (back), and the large view browses by swiping (before, the play buttons stayed and a swipe turned the camera).
  • The Picto Box used facing a postbox now aims as usual; to send a picto, use the postbox's own "choose a picto".

Fixes

  • The app closed when opening the options page with + on Android 13 or older with the 3-button navigation bar (issue #58).
  • On tall phones the buttons of some cards were cut off, so the best-settings test's offer at the first start couldn't be answered and the app stayed on it (issue #59). Switches in cards now stay in view too.
  • The game code preparation card stayed at "0 of 0 parts (0:00)" while its bar moved. It now counts the parts.
  • Showing an item to a postbox closed the game.
  • Swiping the camera on the boat turned it only by about half, or not at all.
  • The rupee counter's twinkle kept appearing at the lower right while the counter was faded out or the HUD hidden (issue #60).

What 0.9.6 brought (the new touch controls, controller setup, item ring, minigames by touch, songs, Picto Box album and postboxes) is in the 0.9.6 release notes and the controls guide.

The app contains no game files. You need your own dump of the game: the disc image (.wux or .wud) with its disc key and the Wii U common key, or a Cemu archive (.wua) made from it. On the first start the app extracts the game and prepares the game code for your device (once; a few minutes on a fast phone, longer on slower ones).

Known issues

  • Devices with 4 GB of RAM could still be closed by Android, for example while saving a state (issues #51, #52). Please report it if it still happens, and close other apps before playing.
  • Huawei Maleoon GPUs: the game closes at the start inside the GPU driver's shader compiler (issue #53).
  • Snapdragon 870 / Adreno 650 with Qualcomm's driver: the GPU can hang at the title screen (issue #29). A Turnip driver (Graphics › Advanced › GPU driver) runs it.
  • Singing the songs is experimental: it depends on the microphone and the room.

Install

  1. Requirements: Android 11 or newer, 64-bit ARM, Vulkan 1.1, about 2 GB of free storage.
  2. Download tloz_tww_hd_recomp-0.9.7.apk and install it. It updates 0.9.6 or 0.9.5 in place and keeps your saves and settings. From 0.9.6 that's all. From 0.9.5 the game code is prepared once more after the update (about 6 minutes on a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, 18 minutes on a Helio G85). Save states from 0.9.5 can't be loaded with 0.9.6 or 0.9.7; save in the game before updating.
  3. New install: put your disc image and both keys, or your .wua file, in one folder. Start the app, choose Extract from your disc image or .wua… and select that folder (or the files themselves).

Frame generation needs the usual Lossless.dll from your own copy of Lossless Scaling. Buy it, don't pirate it like Gonzo would.

Everything else is in the README and the controls guide.
