If your own Lovelace card is tracked through the Marketplace/HACS, its update entity shows no icon at
all in Update Manager (or anywhere else in Home Assistant): both only ever set one for an
integration-category repo, never a plugin, no exceptions.
Update Manager fills that gap with its own, optional convention, not an official HACS/Marketplace one:
ship a brand/icon.png at your repo's root (not nested under custom_components/, plugins don't have
one), and Update Manager picks it up automatically. A brand/dark_icon.png next to it is used instead
whenever the viewer's own Home Assistant is in dark mode, same optional pair a custom
integration itself ships locally
since Home Assistant 2026.3.
A few things worth knowing:
Checked once per repo, cached for the rest of that page view: if you add the file after Update
Manager already decided it's missing, reload the page to pick it up.
Only ever shown once confirmed to actually exist. No file means no icon, exactly like today, never a
broken image.
Nothing to configure: Update Manager derives your repo from the update entity's own release_url
attribute, the same one its release-notes feature already relies on.
