Natchilik language tools

About this repository

The Inuktut-Nattilik repository houses the official language tools for the Natchilingmiutut* / ᓇᑦᕠᓕᖕα’₯ᐅᑐᑦ (Nattilingmiutut) language community, a dialect of Inuktut in Nunavut representing the three East Qitirmiut/Kitikmeot communities of KuugaarΕ™uk / ᑰᒑᕐα–ͺα’ƒ (Kugaaruk), TalurΕ™uaq / ᑕᓗᕐα–ͺαŠα–… (Taloyoak) and Gjoa Haven / ᐅᖅπ‘ͺΈα–…α‘‘α–… (UqΕ‘uqtuuq). The repository houses the official Natchilingmiutut keyboard layout, as well as fonts that can be used in conjunction with this keyboard layout for typing in Natchilingmiutut.

Note that the name 'Natchilingmiutut' is used to refer to the Natchilik language in this repository, rather than 'Nattilingmiutut' or 'Nattilik' in this text, which is the accurate spelling of the language in the local dialect. This is counter to the Unicode core spec and code chart name listings for the 'Nattilik' characters in the Unified Aboriginal Canadian Syllabics.

Branches and Releases

In this repository, the main branch houses all source files for each respective product. The Releases page in this repository contains the binary files generated by these sources and are tagged with the repsective commit from the source that generated these files. These releases serve as a record in the repository towards a summary of the development and updates to each product, both towards updates to the source file and the resulting products that are released or pre-released for the community.
