v0.3.1 - NixOS flake fixed, Frame Analysis

Choose a tag to compare

@Harvi654 Harvi654 released this 22 Oct 12:17
v0.3.1

NixOS flake fixed for Inventor 2026 and 2027, and Frame Analysis works.

Fixes

  • NixOS flake: v0.3.0 did not build in the Nix sandbox (the installer started downloading vkd3d-proton, which the flake did not prefetch). vkd3d-proton 3.0.1 is now prefetched with its SHA-256 (thanks @krokosik, #2).
  • NixOS: Inventor 2027 alongside 2026 - programs.autodesk-inventor.versions = [ "2026" "2027" ];, each release with its own state, licensing database and launcher. See docs/nixos.md.

Wine wine-inventor-11.20-6

  • Frame Analysis works (Simulate and results) and is on by default. The Robot solver writes one compound file from four threads at once; Wine's ole32 had no locking there and corrupted the file (Assertion failed: blockIndex != nextBlock). Also fixed: a stream truncated to zero in a transacted storage was lost on commit. How it was found: docs/arch-hyprland.md.

Upgrading

cd ~/inventor-on-linux && git pull && bash scripts/get-wine.sh
bash scripts/addins.sh enable frameanalysis

Or Inventor on Linux - Setup → Update project and Wine, then the addins.sh line. NixOS: pin github:Harvi654/Autodesk-Inventor-for-Linux/v0.3.1; the flake's Wine rebuilds with the two new patches.

Known issues

  • GPU ray tracing is not available yet (work in progress in #3).
  • Inventor 2027: no previews in the Open dialog, folder names missing in its path bar.
  • 3D PDF export crashes (Anark, wine-mono).

v0.3.0 - Inventor 2027, several releases side by side

Choose a tag to compare

@Harvi654 Harvi654 released this 21 Oct 11:18
v0.3.0

Inventor 2027, several releases side by side, a fixed Open dialog, and a NixOS flake.

What's new

  • Inventor 2027 (2027.1) installs and runs: sign-in, parts, assemblies, drawings, Stress Analysis, CPU ray tracing. It is newer here and less tested than 2026.
  • Several releases side by side. The installer reads the release from Autodesk's file names and gives each one its own Wine prefix (~/.wine-inventor2026, ~/.wine-inventor2027). It never puts a second release into an existing prefix.
  • Graphical installer:
    • lists the installed releases, each with a Start button
    • preselects one release when Downloads holds several, with a button per release to switch
    • shows what goes where before it starts
    • uninstalls releases one by one
  • App menu: one entry per release ("Autodesk Inventor 2026", "Autodesk Inventor 2027"). .ipt/.iam/... open in the newest one; the others are under "Open with".
  • DirectX 12 through vkd3d-proton 3.0.1, pinned and SHA-256 checked like DXVK. Inventor 2027 uses DirectX 12 when it is available.
  • NixOS: a declarative flake and module (thanks @krokosik, #1). Your own Autodesk download is added to the Nix store locally, never fetched or cached publicly. See docs/nixos.md.

Wine wine-inventor-11.20-5

  • Open dialog: clicking quickly through folders crashed Inventor 2026 and 2027 (.NET "Fatal error"). Fixed in ntdll (RtlLocateExtendedFeature2, XSAVE on Zen 3).

  • urlmon:

    • MapUrlToZone copied the URL without its terminating null
    • res:///… URLs without a module got an invalid zone, so WPF refused those images

    Both were found with AutoCAD 2027 and help other .NET/WPF programs too.

Fixes

  • Packages with pre-install actions (ADP Desktop SDK) were unpacked first and then cleaned by their own pre-install step. Actions now run in the right order.
  • Inventor 2027's Default.ipj and Design Data were skipped (ADIX "Common Documents" and "System" folders).
  • WINEARCH from the environment is only honoured for win64/wow64.

Upgrading

cd ~/inventor-on-linux && git pull && bash scripts/get-wine.sh
bash scripts/install-desktop-integration.sh

With Inventor 2027 installed, also run INV_PREFIX=~/.wine-inventor2027 bash scripts/install-desktop-integration.sh. Its menu entry could start 2026 before. Or use Inventor on Linux - Setup → Update project and Wine.

Known issues

  • GPU ray tracing is not available yet. A fix for the OpenGL capability check is coming in a separate PR.
  • Inventor 2027: no previews in the Open dialog, and folder names are missing in its path bar.
  • Frame Analysis and 3D PDF, as in v0.2.0.
  • AutoCAD 2027 is experimental on the autocad branch and does not get past licensing yet. It is not part of this release.

v0.2.1 - one-command setup and graphical installer

Choose a tag to compare

@Harvi654 Harvi654 released this 20 Oct 00:50

Install with one command and a window instead of a terminal script.

What's new

  • One command: with Autodesk's download in your Downloads folder, run

    bash <(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Harvi654/Autodesk-Inventor-for-Linux/main/get.sh)

    It installs git if needed, downloads this project into ~/inventor-on-linux (the newest release) and starts the graphical installer. get.sh is short, so you can read it first.

  • Graphical installer (scripts/install-gui.sh, GTK 4):

    • checks your system (distribution, memory, disk space, GPU, desktop) and finds Autodesk's download in your Downloads folder
    • lets you pick options (Content Center, app launcher)
    • shows all eight phases with an overall progress bar, the step inside the current phase, the elapsed time and the full output
    • asks for your password in a window; the password goes straight to sudo and is not stored
    • Stop at any time; running it again continues where it stopped
    • It runs the same install.sh as the terminal way. On Arch a full install took about 7 minutes with a warm cache.
  • Inventor on Linux - Setup in your app menu: start Inventor, repair the installation, or update this project and its Wine.

  • Updates follow releases: a copy set up by get.sh updates to the newest release, not to every development commit.

Fixes

  • install.sh --prefix (and INV_PREFIX=...) are no longer overridden by config.env in the scripts it starts.
  • Scripts are stored as executable, so git pull no longer stops on "local changes" after the installer ran.

Upgrading

cd ~/inventor-on-linux && git config core.fileMode false && git pull

Or just run the one-command line above; it updates an existing copy.

Known issues are the same as in v0.2.0 (Frame Analysis, 3D PDF, Open dialog with DWG previews).

v0.2.0 - own Wine, Ubuntu and Fedora

Choose a tag to compare

@Harvi654 Harvi654 released this 19 Oct 23:27

Inventor 2026 now installs on Arch Linux, Ubuntu 26.04 / Debian and Fedora 44, without compiling anything.

What's new

  • This project's own Wine: vanilla Wine 11.20 with all fixes from patches/, built in public by the Build Wine workflow and published as the release wine-11.20-3. The installer downloads it into ~/.local/share/inventor-on-linux/ and checks it against wine/SHA256SUMS in the repository. Each build has a signed provenance attestation (gh attestation verify FILE -R Harvi654/Autodesk-Inventor-for-Linux), and BUILDENV inside lists the exact build environment. The system's Wine is not touched, and sudo is only needed for the distribution's packages.

  • Ubuntu 26.04 / Debian (apt) and Fedora 44 (dnf): tested in virtual machines (GNOME, Wayland). Everything worked: install, sign-in, parts, drawings and Stress Analysis.

  • Frame Generator works: Insert Frame was a silent no-op because Wine's msxml3 had no importNode. It's implemented now, with a Wine test.

  • Dynamic Simulation works (joints, gravity, run, replay) and is on by default.

  • Sheet metal tested: face, flange, flat pattern, DXF export.

  • Open files by double-click: .ipt .iam .idw .ipn .ipj open in Inventor from the file manager (Dolphin, Nautilus). If Inventor is already running, the file opens in the same window. The file types get Inventor's own icons.

  • Your files in ~/Inventor: Inventor's Documents folder now points there (drive D:), so saved files are no longer hidden inside the Wine prefix.

  • report.sh shows which Wine is in use and its patches.

Upgrading from v0.1

cd ~/inventor-on-linux && git pull
bash scripts/get-wine.sh
bash scripts/install-desktop-integration.sh # file types and icons
bash scripts/addins.sh enable dynamicsimulation

v0.1's fixes built into Arch's system Wine keep working. To stay with them, set INV_WINE=system in config.env. Don't switch one prefix back and forth between two Wine versions (see docs/arch-hyprland.md).

Known issues

  • Frame Analysis: the study, constraints and loads work, but Simulate crashes the solver (rkernel.exe) in Wine's compound-file code. Off by default; being looked into.
  • 3D PDF: Publish crashes Anark's corewrapper.exe under wine-mono. Off by default.
  • Open dialog: browsing folders with DWG files using "All files" can crash Inventor while a preview loads. Keep the filter on Inventor files for now; being looked into.
  • The Dynamic Simulation player panel can end up behind the main window (Alt+Tab brings it back).
  • GPU ray tracing does not work (needs Direct3D 12 ray tracing).
  • Ubuntu and Fedora have only been tested in a VM so far (software rendering); reports from real hardware are welcome.

Install

git clone https://github.com/Harvi654/Autodesk-Inventor-for-Linux.git ~/inventor-on-linux
cd ~/inventor-on-linux
bash scripts/install.sh ~/Downloads/Inventor

You need your own Inventor license (an education license works). Problems? Open an issue with the output of bash scripts/report.sh.
