Install with one command and a window instead of a terminal script.

What's new

  • One command: with Autodesk's download in your Downloads folder, run

    bash <(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Harvi654/Autodesk-Inventor-for-Linux/main/get.sh)

It installs git if needed, downloads this project into ~/inventor-on-linux (the newest release) and starts the graphical installer. get.sh is short, so you can read it first.

  • Graphical installer (scripts/install-gui.sh, GTK 4):

    • checks your system (distribution, memory, disk space, GPU, desktop) and finds Autodesk's download in your Downloads folder
    • lets you pick options (Content Center, app launcher)
    • shows all eight phases with an overall progress bar, the step inside the current phase, the elapsed time and the full output
    • asks for your password in a window; the password goes straight to sudo and is not stored
    • Stop at any time; running it again continues where it stopped
    • It runs the same install.sh as the terminal way. On Arch a full install took about 7 minutes with a warm cache.
  • Inventor on Linux - Setup in your app menu: start Inventor, repair the installation, or update this project and its Wine.

  • Updates follow releases: a copy set up by get.sh updates to the newest release, not to every development commit.

Fixes

  • install.sh --prefix (and INV_PREFIX=...) are no longer overridden by config.env in the scripts it starts.
  • Scripts are stored as executable, so git pull no longer stops on "local changes" after the installer ran.

Upgrading

cd ~/inventor-on-linux && git config core.fileMode false && git pull

Or just run the one-command line above; it updates an existing copy.

Known issues are the same as in v0.2.0 (Frame Analysis, 3D PDF, Open dialog with DWG previews).
