DynamicNotch v27.5
What's new
Liquid Glass notch (macOS 26+)
- Optional Liquid Glass background for the expanded notch: solid black around the camera, melting into glass toward the bottom. Turn it on in Settings → Appearance.
- New layered app icon.
Fan control
- Thermal daemon update required. If you've installed fan control, DynamicNotch will prompt you to update the daemon on launch. Please do. Upcoming fan features depend on the new daemon and won't work with the old one. The update installs directly, with no copy/paste into Terminal.
- Fans are not driven while a daemon update is pending, so fan control stays off until you update.
- Smoother fan ramp-down: no more instant speed drop at the bottom of the curve, and fans ramp down before handing control back to macOS.
- Manual fan floor setting, and the floor is no longer clamped.
- Fixed a fan-safety gap, and fixed Full Disk Access detection.
Extensions
- New picker-based rule builder.
- Rules can have unlimited exit rules; the entry rule must fire before an exit rule can.
- Armed state now persists across relaunches.
- Fixed prerequisite/gate logic errors. Extensions that fail to save are quarantined instead of silently dropped.
AI usage
- Dropdown pickers for the usage percentage settings.
- Fixed Claude usage windows resetting incorrectly because of small timing jitter in the reported reset time.
Diagnostics
- Better logging and a smoother flow for attaching logs to bug reports.
DynamicNotch v27.4
Extensions
- New fan.floorSet action: sets a minimum fan speed a rule enforces — the thermal curve (or macOS) can still push fans higher, but never lower than the floor.
- New sustainFor field on rules: a resettable timer that fires a companion extension.durationElapsed trigger if a rule stops matching its own trigger and conditions for N seconds. For triggers with an obvious live value (frontmost app, volume, brightness, media playback, caffeine, webcam, audio device, thermal state) it keeps resetting on its own for as long as that value keeps matching, not just on discrete events — use it for automations that undo themselves after staying in one state for a while.
DynamicNotch v27.3.3
Fixed YouTube Music WebSocket authentication failing to connect
DynamicNotch v27.3.2
Fixed
- App could launch with the menu bar icon visible but no notch UI on macOS 27, caused by an uncaught exception when reading the private Bluetooth batteryPercent property (fix contributed by @aliaskar-rockeater).
DynamicNotch v27.3.1
Fixed
- YouTube Music integration could enter a tight WebSocket reconnect loop (retrying every second instead of backing off) when its companion server was unreachable, along with related CFNetwork/SQLite log spam.
- A leaked SQLite connection handle in the Chrome cookie reader when opening a copied cookie database failed.
DynamicNotch v27.3
Extensions
Build small automations without writing any code — pick a trigger, optionally match it against conditions, and pair it with an action.
- 25+ triggers: battery, volume, brightness, media playback, calendar, thermal state, audio device changes, Bluetooth battery, clipboard, downloads, AI usage, caffeine, sleep/wake, app launch/quit/frontmost, time of day, display changes, webcam, and AirPlay.
- 17 actions: notifications (system or in-app), Caffeine on/off, audio output switching (including waking a dormant AirPlay device), sneak-peek HUD, volume/brightness, opening or quitting an app, clipboard writes, webcam control, media transport, running a Shortcut, switching AI usage provider, toggling HUD replacement, and switching notch tabs.
- Optional revert actions — pair "turn on" with an automatic "turn off" the next time the trigger fires and no longer matches, without writing a second rule.
- Three ways to build one: hand-type the rule JSON, copy a ready-made prompt into an external AI chatbot and paste the result back, or generate on-device where Apple Intelligence is available.
- New Extensions settings tab: enable, disable, edit, or delete, with a live "Run Now" preview per rule.
What's New
DynamicNotch now introduces itself. After an update ships something worth knowing about, a short paged flow appears on next launch highlighting what's new, with a button to jump straight to the relevant Settings tab. First-time setup now ends with the same tour, so new users get introduced to major features too — including a new fan-control page for Macs with fans. Turn the post-update flow off anytime in About → Software Updates.
DynamicNotch v27.2
Notch activity priority
- Choose the order Music, Downloads, Face, and AI Usage compete for the notch instead of a fixed priority — drag to reorder in Displays settings.
- AI Usage can jump to the front of that order on its own: turn on "Promote in notch" in AI Usage settings and pick a threshold (50-95%) to keep it visible over whatever else is active once usage gets close to the limit.
Charging
- Music, Downloads, and AI Usage now show a small charging glyph in place of their secondary content while actively charging, instead of being replaced by a separate full-width "Charging" banner.
DynamicNotch v27.1
AI usage notifications
- Get notified when AI usage crosses a threshold. Three configurable alert points (80/90/100% by default), each of which can be turned off individually.
- Optional notification when the usage window resets, gated on how much of the previous window you actually used — so you only hear about it if you were near the limit.
- Alerts fire once per window and never repeat while you sit above the line.
Fixes
- The AI usage indicator now shows an error symbol instead of an empty ring when usage can't be read, so a failed request no longer looks like zero usage.
- Fixed silent Keychain write failures that could leave the app reporting "authenticated" with no credential stored.
- Changing the polling interval now applies immediately instead of waiting out the previous interval.
- Fixed a latent crash in the system HUD event path.
DynamicNotch v27.0.2
Fixed the AI usage indicator (and music/download live activities and the idle face animation) needing a second, hidden toggle in Displays before it would appear. Your main display now follows the settings in each feature's own section, so one toggle is enough.
Per-display overrides now only show up for secondary displays, and only when 'Show on all displays' is turned on. Added a 'Show in closed notch' option under Enable AI Usage, and a new display setup step during onboarding.
DynamicNotch can now also be installed via Homebrew: brew install --cask hitjack007/dynamicnotch/dynamicnotch
DynamicNotch v27.0.1
Fixed
- Album art in the expanded notch could grow far larger than intended and stretch/distort wide thumbnails (most noticeable with YouTube-style video thumbnails), which also flattened the notch's rounded top corner. Artwork is now pinned to its intended fixed size and cropped (not stretched) to fill it, matching its original position.
