Code Block Studio 1.7.5 — catalogue package preview
Code Block Studio 1.7.5 prepares the first Joplin catalogue package with the reviewed write-up and a six-image product gallery.
What changed
- Added the concise catalogue description and detailed feature write-up to the package README.
- Registered screenshots for code cards, formatting comparisons, retro computer displays, BBC modes, language search and line wrapping.
- Requires Joplin Desktop 3.7.22 or later, matching the version used for Linux development checks.
- Keeps the existing plugin ID and settings. Every installer file except its manifest has exactly the same contents as 1.7.4; formatting, retro displays and editor behaviour are unchanged.
Install and try it
Download local.lpowers.code-studio.jpl, then use Joplin Desktop's Options / Settings → Plugins → gear button → Install from file and restart Joplin. Import code-block-studio-examples.md as a new note for 77 examples, with the main languages first and retro systems towards the end.
Version 1.7.5 is now published on npm. The downloaded npm package exactly matches the reviewed installer, metadata, six screenshots and example note. Joplin catalogue import remains pending; until it appears in Joplin's plugin search, use the manual installer.
Verification and compatibility
Built from reviewed public source f64e5b103063ec2833d93c3d84995e865a45fa74. Clean installation, TypeScript, build and all 111 automated tests pass; the dependency audit reports zero known vulnerabilities. The installer and its matching metadata use the same version, minimum Joplin version and six screenshot entries. All fonts, formatter assets and licence notices are included locally.
Windows and macOS have not been live-tested; mobile is unsupported. Fresh live Joplin testing was not repeated for this metadata-only update. Retro displays are static reproductions and do not execute snippets.
The release includes the installer, metadata JSON, 77-example Markdown note, reviewed source ZIP and SHA256SUMS. Download all five files into one directory and verify them on Linux with sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.
Code Block Studio 1.7.4 — retro displays and language chooser preview
Code Block Studio 1.7.4 is a Joplin Desktop preview with saved retro computer displays, a searchable language chooser and an expanded example note.
Changes since 1.4.0
- Turn on Retro display for machine-specific BASIC code blocks to use locally bundled fonts and familiar screen colours. The choice is saved with each block and also appears in both formatting comparison panes.
- Added Macintosh Microsoft BASIC/QuickBASIC, Atari ST STOS/GFA, MSX, ZX81, Dragon 32/64, Acorn Archimedes and Oric Atmos alongside C64, BBC Micro, Spectrum, Amstrad, Apple II, IBM PC, Atari 8-bit and Amiga displays.
- Added BBC Modes 0–7, including blue/red Mode 6 with corrected full-width black row gaps and no extra top line.
- The Rich Text code editor's Language field supports typed completion and a searchable dropdown. It stays closed on entry, opens from the arrow, groups aliases without duplicate rows and still accepts custom labels.
- Fixed repeated Retro display toggles after changing a block's language in the native code editor.
- Included 77 code examples: main programming languages first, followed by web, data/configuration and SQL, then retro systems and BBC display modes.
Fonts, highlighting and formatters work offline. Code snippets are never executed. The existing plugin ID, local.lpowers.code-studio, is retained for upgrades.
Install and try it
- Download local.lpowers.code-studio.jpl from this release's assets.
- In Joplin Desktop, open Options / Settings → Plugins, press the gear button and choose Install from file.
- Select the downloaded
.jpland restart Joplin. - Import code-block-studio-examples.md as a new note to try the languages and retro screens.
See Joplin's manual plugin installation instructions. This preview is distributed as a manual download; it does not submit the plugin to Joplin's catalogue.
Files and verification
local.lpowers.code-studio.jpl— desktop plugin installer, including local fonts, formatters and licence notices.local.lpowers.code-studio.json— matching installer/build metadata.code-block-studio-examples.md— importable 77-example note.codeblock-studio-1.7.4-source.zip— reviewed source archive.SHA256SUMS— SHA-256 checksums for the four files above.
After downloading all five files into one directory, Linux users can verify them with:
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMSThe tagged public source is e813a2aa24abecde2f931fc2aa7285c7510182b3. This is the email-corrected replacement for original build commit 030fd2b73dfdf109352e7ef1cc94e990cd93ce69, with exactly the same source file contents. The preserved metadata retains the original build commit; the installer, metadata, examples, source ZIP and checksums have not been rebuilt or altered.
Preview validation and limits
The reviewed source passed a clean dependency installation, TypeScript checking, build and all 111 automated tests. All preserved payload checksums and all 163 source archive files were verified against the reviewed public source.
Live Joplin acceptance of the latest Mode 6 adjustment, verification on the declared minimum Joplin version, Windows/macOS and original hardware/emulator checks remain pending. Earlier desktop checks used Joplin 3.7.22 on Linux. This plugin targets desktop; mobile is not supported. Retro screens are static reproductions, and analogue hardware colours varied.
Code Block Studio 1.4.0 — practical and retro formatters preview
Code Block Studio 1.4.0 adds offline formatting for practical scripting/configuration languages and a collection of retro BASIC text listings.
Added
- PowerShell 7, Lua, Dart, Rust 2021, Dockerfile and Terraform/OpenTofu/HCL.
- Oracle PL/SQL, Snowflake, DuckDB, Redshift, DB2 and Hive SQL dialects.
- Conservative layout formatting for generic BASIC, BBC BASIC, Sinclair BASIC, Commodore BASIC V2, Locomotive BASIC, Applesoft, GW-BASIC, QBasic, Atari BASIC and AMOS.
- Local HCL highlighting and examples for every new formatter label.
All formatters are bundled. Snippets are never executed, and formatting retains the existing Original/Formatted preview, Copy, Apply and editor Undo paths.
Install
Download local.lpowers.code-studio.jpl. In Joplin Desktop, open Tools → Options → Plugins, use the gear menu → Install from file, select it and restart Joplin. The plugin ID and saved preference keys are unchanged.
Validation and limits
Fresh dependency installation, TypeScript checks, build and all 85 tests pass from the clean public source commit. The dependency check reports zero known vulnerabilities. Checks cover offline loading, concurrent initialisation, error recovery, literal/source preservation, documentation examples, packaging and browser/host integration. Checksums cover the installer, metadata and source ZIP.
This remains a preview pending live Joplin acceptance. The declared minimum Joplin 3.3, Windows/macOS execution and original retro machines/emulators have not been verified. Earlier live checks used Joplin 3.7.22 on Linux; browser Rich Text checks use a TinyMCE stub.
PowerShell output targets version 7, with a preservation guard that can refuse output it cannot retain safely. Rust uses the 2021 edition. BASIC formatting aligns program numbers and indents recognised blocks; it preserves statement text, case, strings, comments, DATA and physical boundaries. It does not renumber, expand abbreviated keywords, interpret programs or load tokenised tape/disk images. BASIC syntax colouring is generic.
The original plugin remains MIT licensed. Third-party engines retain their packaged notices and source locations. Optional support: Ko-fi.
No npm or Joplin catalogue submission has been made.
Code Block Studio 1.3.3 — preview
Code Block Studio makes fenced code blocks easier to read, copy and format in Joplin Desktop. Highlighting, fonts and formatters are bundled and run locally.
This is the first public GitHub preview. Version 1.3.3 keeps formatting feedback visible in the sticky toolbar on long code blocks. It also includes optional Ko-fi support links and an MIT licence naming Leonard Powers, alongside the bundled dependency notices.
Install
Download local.lpowers.code-studio.jpl below. In Joplin Desktop, open Tools → Options → Plugins, choose the gear menu → Install from file, select the installer, and restart Joplin. Existing installations retain the plugin ID and preferences.
Validation and limits
A fresh source checkout passed dependency installation, TypeScript checks, the build and all 52 tests. The dependency check reports zero known vulnerabilities. The installer was built from the clean source commit shown in its metadata; SHA256SUMS covers the installer, metadata and source archive.
This is a preview, pending final live acceptance in Joplin. The declared minimum Joplin 3.3 has not been verified; earlier live checks used 3.7.22 on Linux. Windows and macOS remain untested, and mobile is not supported. Browser Rich Text tests use a TinyMCE stub. Use disposable notes for acceptance checks.
The plugin has not been published to npm or the Joplin catalogue.
Optional support: Ko-fi.
