• Currently in Synoptics you can have, input/output fields present where you can add blocks as well as PVs. The block is not added as a block PV path (CS:SB) but as the underlying PV name, you also give a separate label for the item to be displayed with it on the synoptic. If the config changes, the name of the block for the underlying PV may change (e.g. sample_temp -> cryostat_temp) but this change is not reflected on the synoptic and has lead to confusion. What they would like is a little complex - they add a block which points at e.g. eurotherm sensor 1, the synoptic shows the name, of the block. The change config where another block points at eurotherm sensor 1, the synoptic name updates to say this block name. In principle this information is in our PV database. Similar to #2841, also added #5359.
