Description
Was asked if someone could create an issue here for tracking purposes, so I copied over the Claude chat and Discord excerpt:
[10:07]chief1983: So someone on the FotG server was asking about the Windows Defender Firewall notification that happens every time a new build is used. It occurred to me that KNet might be able to pre-load firewall exceptions every time a new build is downloaded. I had hoped for some kind of wildcard, one-time solution, but Claude convinced me that WDF doesn't support that. What sounded most intriguing to me was a small helper process could be launched any time the user requests the installation of a new engine build, that could ask for elevated permissions at that point to create the new firewall rule. From a UX perspective, I think getting asked to allow that permission at that point, as opposed to once a user has tried to run the game, is much less surprising. Maybe this was already something someone had considered a solution for, not sure, just throwing it out there. I attached a copy of the Claude chat, what sounded the most feasible (to me anyway) is at the bottom, strangely titled "Final Solution" in the exported chat...
[10:11]MjnMixael: oh man that's be so great
[10:16]ShivanSpS: mmmm yes
[10:17]ShivanSpS: cmd with admin prev is the way to go, knet can call cmd with elevated permissions without requesting additional input
[10:17]ShivanSpS: if the user that is running it is an admin offcourse
