Release list
Alpha 0.1.5
Optional enhanced cloth physics, global tuning and saved presets, plus the latest memory-patch and no-clip improvements.
New
- F6 > Physics: response speed, motion retention, gravity, stretch stiffness and bend resistance.
- Animated body capsules and cloth-edge collision, with adjustable size and strength.
- Optional within-panel self-collision with strength and thickness controls.
- Named global physics presets, restored between starts.
- Guarded pointer patches, original cheat-action style one shot memory patches work.
- Complete Visual C++ runtime beside the game, compiler and RFD Switchblade.
Install / update
Extract TenchuRFD-0.1.5-alpha-windows.zip somewhere writable and run TenchuRFD.exe. Supply your own supported Tenchu: Return from Darkness original Xbox disc image. First start unpacks the disc and prepares the game code using the bundled compiler.
For clean testing, use a new folder. Updating an existing installation preserves its hdd saves and personal settings. Keep the bundled EXE and compiler files together. No game files, generated game DLL, saves, personal settings or installed mods are included.
Physics testing
Enhanced physics is off on a clean installation; enable it under F6 > Physics. Self-collision is a separate switch and starts off. See PHYSICS.txt for tuning and preset instructions.
Models need existing cloth data. Body capsules approximate supported skeletons; self-collision operates within individual panels. Coarse meshes can still clip, and new bending/edge/self-collision coverage needs tester feedback.
Compare standing, running, sharp turns, jumping and landing. Include the character/model, mission, any memory patches and physics settings/preset with a bug report, along with zipped logs and a crash dump when applicable.
Alpha 0.1.4
Alpha 0.1.4: custom levels, RFD Switchblade and maps of any size. Still an alpha for testers: please report what breaks and attach the zipped logs folder.
Note
No game files are included. You need your own Tenchu: Return from Darkness for the original Xbox, USA release, as a disc image (.iso) made from your own disc.
New
- Custom levels (F6 > Levels): a level replaces the map of a story mission, its look, collision and lighting, while the mission itself stays.
- RFD Switchblade > Levels: build levels from a ground, boxes and OBJ models from Blender, with their pictures packed in on save, a light colour and sun, a Ledges setting per model, and the mission's enemies, items and lights to move, add or remove.
- No size limit on a level's map or collision.
- Multiplayer alone (F6 > Cheats, experimental): two players in a story mission with one controller.
Changed
- The Mod Workbench is now RFD Switchblade (
tools\RFD Switchblade.exe). Its settings carry over. - Scrolling sky and water textures keep repeating instead of stretching into streaks.
Known issues
- sp in mp levels may crash.
- Custom levels: the player always starts at the mission's own start, and a level's pictures must fit in the stage's free texture slots.
