Migrating from Paper

Swapping the jar is enough, see Installation. Worlds, plugins and configs keep working.

Take over the recommended settings

A fresh PaperStream install starts with some better defaults in the Paper, Spigot and Bukkit configs. A server that came from Paper keeps its old values until you take them over:

/paperstream migrate

shows every setting that differs from the recommendation, with the reason:

  • Alternate Current redstone (same behaviour, much faster redstone dust)
  • optimized explosions
  • cheaper entity collisions, cramming still works
  • armor stands without collision lookups
  • villagers check their workstation and look for a job less often
  • entity save limits per chunk (projectiles, items, minecarts, TNT), so lag machines do not survive a restart
  • items and experience orbs merge from further away

None of them change how farms work. Values you have set stricter than the recommendation are kept.

To take them over:

/paperstream migrate apply confirm

PaperStream does not make a backup by itself, small servers often have no disk space for it. Copy config/ and spigot.yml first. Restart the server afterwards.

Plugin check

After every start PaperStream lists:

  • plugins that failed to start (if one works on Paper but not on PaperStream, please report it: https://dc.gg/paperstream)
  • plugins that do the same job as a PaperStream feature, for example AntiRedstoneClock, ClearLag or FarmControl. Keep only one of the two.

Turn it off with startup.plugin-check: false.
