Hi @HerveShima, unfortunately, the pre-proposal submission deadline has passed (March 9th, 2026), so you won't be able to apply to join GSoC 2026 w/ MDAnalysis this year. Feel free to look at other organizations that are still open. As always, you're welcome to contribute to MDAnalysis + WESTPA (+ Molecular Nodes)'s open source code bases! https://www.mdanalysis.org/2026/02/19/gsoc2026/#information-for-prospective-gsoc-contributors |

Hello everyone,
My name is Shima Herve Ndikuryayo. I am a computer science student with a strong interest in Python development, scientific computing, and open-source collaboration. I am planning to apply to Google Summer of Code 2026 and I am particularly interested in Project 5: “Dashboard for tracking WESTPA simulation progress”.
Over the past few days, I have started exploring the MDAnalysis ecosystem to understand the basics of how molecular dynamics trajectory data can be analyzed using Python. I have begun reading the MDAnalysis documentation and experimenting with simple scripts to understand how trajectories and topology files are loaded and processed.
My programming background includes Python and software development, and I have also worked on projects involving web technologies and data processing. Because of this background, the idea of building a monitoring dashboard for simulation progress is very interesting to me. I am especially interested in learning how MDAnalysis streaming capabilities and WESTPA work managers can be used to track and report simulation progress.
I look forward to learning from the community and contributing to the project.
