Licensing
Every new install starts with a 72-hour free trial with every feature unlocked. When the trial ends, the app keeps working in a limited mode that covers Jamf Pro settings reports only. A licence unlocks everything else again.
A one-time licence for the MDM Reporting Tool costs $39.99 AUD. No subscription. The button opens a secure FastSpring checkout, which shows the price in your local currency. Your licence key is emailed to you once payment goes through.
Want Magic Toolbox as well? Buy both together for $99.99 AUD (save $14.99), for a limited time only:
For volume pricing or a custom licence, email info@mdmmagic.au. Purchases are subject to the Terms & Conditions.
The badge in the app header shows where you stand:
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| TRIAL · 71h 12m | Free trial, with the time remaining. Everything is unlocked |
| EXPIRED | The trial has ended and no licence is active. Limited mode |
| Licensed | A licence is active on this Mac. Everything is unlocked |
During the trial, the MDM selection screen shows "Free trial — … remaining. Enter a License Key to keep full access." After it ends, it shows Trial expired — Enter License Key to unlock all platforms. Clicking the header badge opens the licence window.
The trial is recorded in the Keychain. Deleting and reinstalling the app doesn't restart it, and nor does setting the Mac's clock back. If the login keychain is locked or can't be read when the app starts, the trial isn't available for that session, and the licence window says "Unlock your login keychain and reopen the app."
Without full access, the sections step shows Trial expired — Settings only (or Unlicensed — Settings only), and the completion screen labels the report Trial Expired — Limited Report.

Locked options are greyed out and show a padlock with Licensed Only. Clicking it opens the licence window. If the trial ends while one of these options is switched on, it's switched off for you. This is checked again just before a report starts, so a trial that runs out mid-way through the wizard can't produce a licensed report. Anything that was skipped for this reason is listed on the completion screen.
- Click the header badge, or Manage License in the About window.
- Enter your key. Keys look like
MDMRT-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX. Lowercase letters, spaces, and the long dashes that appear when a key is copied from a PDF or email are all fine. - Click Activate.
Once it's active, the licence window shows the key with the middle two groups hidden (MDMRT-••••••••-••••••••-XXXXXXXX), so it's safe to have on screen.
Each licence is activated on one Mac. If you deploy the app with MDM, every machine still needs activating.
Activation links the key to a random ID the app creates for this Mac and keeps in the Keychain. No serial number or other hardware ID is sent. If macOS is reinstalled, or that Keychain item is deleted, the Mac counts as a new machine: deactivate first, or contact MDM Magic through mdmmagic.au to have the key released.
The app confirms the licence with the licence server when it launches and every 6 hours while it's open. Each check gives the app a signed token that lasts about a day.
If the server can't be reached, the licence keeps working for up to 72 hours after the last token expires. The licence window shows "… Working offline until — connect to the internet before then to keep your licence active." While it's offline, the app retries every few minutes, and straight away when the network comes back.
If the Mac's clock has been set back, the licence has to be confirmed online before it works again.
If the licence server rejects the licence, the licence window shows the reason. The key stays entered so you can try again, unless the licence has been revoked.
On the old Mac, open the licence window and click Deactivate Licence, then confirm. The key is released on the licence server and can be activated on another Mac.
You need to be online to deactivate. If the licence server can't be reached, nothing is removed: the licence stays on the Mac and an error explains why. Try again once you're online. If that isn't possible (the Mac is being wiped, for example), click Remove from This Mac Anyway. That removes the licence from this Mac only, and the key stays linked to it on the server: contact MDM Magic through mdmmagic.au to have it released.
