What does this PR do?
Adding minor commits (mostly rethinking my approach to long lines) to clear things out in preparation for the creation of a long-term refactoring branch. All further development will happen in this new branch as I'm doing with my ArchivesSpace repo. I'm not planning to use this code in this form except for time-sensitive projects
