The main feature of the Lionfish communication processor is Network Compute Adapter (NCA).
Lionfish comm processor includes several special-purpose and general purpose processors. The primary function of the Network Compute Adapter (NCA) is to connect the special-purpose processors to the general-purpose processors through a high-speed communication task ring. A Processing Element (PE) is defined as one of the following general-purpose processors:
A Cortex-A53 CPU core within the CPU subsystem
A CEVA-XC4500 DSP core within the DSP subsystem
A Cortex-M3 core within the LTE Front End Subsystem
The NCA provides mechanisms to transfer tasks between Processing Elements (PEs) and the accelerator engines. The NCA also provides mechanisms to enable the CPUs to configure the accelerator engines. The PEs use the NCA to send and receive messages over the Virtual Pipeline ring.
