MaxRAR v0.1.2
Signed installers, a Windows 11 main-menu entry, and the experimental MRAR/2 format.
Changes
- Signed apps. The Windows installer and app are signed with Azure Artifact Signing. The Mac apps are signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple. First-launch security warnings should be fewer or gone; Windows SmartScreen may still warn until the signature builds reputation.
- Windows 11 main right-click menu. A MaxRAR submenu with Open in MaxRAR, Extract with MaxRAR… and Compress with MaxRAR… now appears without Show more options. Compress works with several selected items. The classic commands stay available as a fallback and on Windows 10.
- MRAR/2 (experimental). New
.mrararchives compress files together in 16 MiB blocks and pick PPMd, LZMA2 or no compression for each block. In our tests on one Windows PC, text archives were 20% smaller than 7-Zip -mx9 and about 38× faster to create; a realnode_modulesfolder was still 6% larger than 7-Zip. Archives are written and checked on several threads. MRAR/0 and MRAR/1 archives still open. See the MRAR/2 specification. - Mac installers are named for the chip:
MaxRAR_0.1.2_macOS_apple-silicon.dmgandMaxRAR_0.1.2_macOS_intel.dmg.
Installing
Existing v0.1.1 installations can update from About MaxRAR. Otherwise choose the Windows installer, the Mac DMG for your chip, or a Linux package from this release. The .sig, .app.tar.gz and latest.json files are for the in-app updater; you do not need to download them.
MRAR remains experimental: keep your originals and use established formats for exchange and backups. Older MaxRAR versions cannot open MRAR/2 archives. RAR creation, multipart RAR and self-extracting RAR are not supported. Scan remains limited local inspection, not comprehensive antivirus protection.
