Release list
MaxRAR v0.1.1
MaxRAR v0.1.1
Signed updates, ready for the next release. This update fixes the disabled update check in the original v0.1.0 installers.
Changes
- The update verification key and release endpoint are now included in every app build.
- Windows x64 and both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs can check, download, verify and install future signed updates inside About MaxRAR.
- Linux AppImage supports in-app updates. DEB/RPM installations offer a direct link to the latest packages instead of an unavailable update check.
- Release preparation verifies all four targets, rejects tampered packages, checks the signed application version, and assembles a complete
latest.jsonfeed. - Missing signing configuration, inconsistent versions or an incomplete platform feed now fail release preparation.
Installing
Users of v0.1.0 must install v0.1.1 manually once. The original installer cannot enable its missing update configuration remotely.
Choose the matching Windows installer, Mac DMG (MaxRAR_0.1.1_macOS_apple-silicon.dmg for M-series Macs, MaxRAR_0.1.1_macOS_intel.dmg for Intel Macs), or Linux package from this release. The darwin-* and windows-*/linux-* files are for the in-app updater; you do not need to download them. First-launch steps for Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper are in the README. Linux AppImage users should make the file executable before launching it. On Mac, replace MaxRAR in Applications, then refresh desktop actions if necessary.
Update packages are cryptographically signed for MaxRAR’s updater. This is separate from operating-system publisher signing: these builds still lack Windows Authenticode and macOS Developer ID notarization, so first-install security warnings may appear.
Before public launch
The GitHub repository and release downloads must be publicly accessible for installed apps to read the update feed. No GitHub tokens are embedded in MaxRAR. While the repository remains private, update checks will report a connection/access error.
Live upgrade, restart and desktop integration checks on Windows, Intel Mac, Apple Silicon Mac and Linux AppImage remain release acceptance checks. CI signatures and package verification do not replace installed-device testing.
MRAR remains experimental. RAR creation, multipart RAR and self-extracting RAR are not supported. Scan remains limited local inspection, not comprehensive antivirus protection.
MaxRAR v0.1.0 — Know what you unpack
MaxRAR v0.1.0
Know what you unpack. The first MaxRAR release brings archive creation, inspection and extraction to Windows, macOS and Linux.
A product of Matily, built with Rust and Tauri.
Highlights
- Browse before extracting. Explore folders, search filenames, preview supported text, and see file-type counts in the compact “What’s inside?” panel.
- Open RAR archives. Browse, extract and test supported single-volume RAR4/RAR5 archives, including supported solid and password-protected archives. No separate UnRAR installation is required.
- Create your archives. Write ZIP and 7z archives with optional AES-256 password protection, plus TAR, compressed TAR and supported single-file compression formats.
- Choose where files go. Review extraction destinations and handle existing files with Skip, Keep both or Replace.
- Test and scan locally. Test readability and available integrity checks. Scan an archive or selected entries for structural warnings and bundled static indicators, without uploading archive content.
- Work from the desktop or terminal. Finder actions, Windows Explorer commands and the JSON CLI use the same Rust archive core.
- Try experimental MRAR/1. MaxRAR’s own format adds shared small-file compression, a compressed index and SHA-256 integrity checks. Legacy MRAR/0 archives remain readable.

Installation
- Windows: run the EXE installer. Explorer actions may appear under Show more options on Windows 11. Use Send to → Compress with MaxRAR for multiple files or folders.
- macOS: choose the DMG matching your chip, then drag MaxRAR into Applications. Launch it and choose Help → Desktop integration → Enable desktop actions to add Finder compression and extraction actions.
- Linux: install the DEB or RPM using your distribution’s package manager so required system libraries are resolved. Packages were built on Ubuntu 24.04; compatibility with other distributions needs testing.
The installers are unsigned; macOS apps are not Developer ID notarized. Windows or macOS may warn about the publisher or block first launch. Check the download’s SHA-256 against this release before choosing whether to allow it through your operating system’s normal security controls. Checksums identify the downloaded files; they do not replace publisher signatures.
In-app updates are not configured in v0.1.0. Install future versions from the releases page.
Current limits
- RAR creation, multipart RAR and self-extracting RAR executables are not supported.
- Scan provides limited static inspection, not comprehensive antivirus protection or a safety guarantee. Test checks archive integrity, not malware.
- MRAR is experimental. Keep originals and use established formats for stable exchange or backups.
- Archive repair, split-volume creation and metadata-preserving backups are not implemented.
Build verification
All four platform jobs passed in GitHub Actions run 38849432071, including frontend checks and tests, Rust tests, formatting, Clippy and package creation. Windows shell integration checks also passed in CI. Installed desktop behavior still needs testing on users’ devices.
The installers are the unchanged artifacts built from commit 992743e. The release source also includes subsequent documentation, Apache-2.0 licensing metadata and CI trigger updates; those changes are not embedded in these installers. Current project license texts and notices accompany the release as a separate ZIP.
Original MaxRAR work is licensed under Apache-2.0. Third-party components retain their respective licenses, including the native UnRAR decoder’s separate license.
