Heads-up before you open an issue

This is an early alpha. It boots and is playable for a lot of people, but it is not a polished release. Glitches, lighting weirdness, crashes, and unfinished bits are expected.

Please read the notes / README before posting that "it doesn't work." If something is actually broken for you (like a missing file in the zip), say what you did, what you saw, and stick a screenshot or log if you can. That helps a lot more than "doesn't work" spam.

Antivirus / "trojan" flags

Some antivirus tools (Windows Defender included) may flag the zip or the exes as a trojan / unwanted program. That's a false positive, not malware in the release.

Why it happens:

  • The binaries are unsigned and from a small/new project, so reputation is low.
  • The release ships a compiler folder (clang, lld-link, xbe_recomp, etc.). On first PLAY the host uses those tools to translate your own XBE into a DLL and then load it. That "compile + write + load code" pattern looks a lot like what real malware does, so heuristics light up.
  • Same class of false positive shows up on other recomp / homebrew / emulator-adjacent tools.

What to do: download from the official GitHub release only, allow / exclude the folder if your AV quarantines it, and keep the whole unzip (especially compiler) next to the exe. Source is public if you want to build it yourself.

What's new in v0.1.2-alpha

  • Fix: release zip now includes the compiler folder (clang / lld / xbe_recomp + config). This was missing in v0.1.1-alpha and caused the "compiler folder is missing files" error on PLAY.
  • Same launcher polish as v0.1.1-alpha (HOME clip, language-matched UI, etc.)

Still alpha

Expect visual glitches (lighting especially), audio quirks, and some instability. Save when you can.

Bring your own legally owned European disc dump — nothing from the game is in this zip.

Needs the .NET 8 Desktop Runtime.

How to run

  1. Unzip the whole archive (keep the compiler folder next to the exe)
  2. Open WarriorsLauncher.exe
  3. SETUP / ISO → install into assets
  4. PLAY (first start may compile from your dump — give it time)

If something blows up, check logs\warriors.log next to the exe.
