The Modules Registry serves as the central directory of all domain-specific ontology modules within the Meta Mesh Ontology (MMO). It provides a curated overview, version tracking, and metadata registry for every MMO-integrated module, ensuring transparency, discoverability, and interoperability across the ontology ecosystem.
The registryβs purpose is to maintain a unified index of all modular extensions that contribute to the MMO framework. Each module represents a domain-specific semantic layer (e.g., clinical, environmental, social, cognitive, or infrastructural) that extends the Core Domain Framework (CDF) and links back to the foundational classes of the Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) .
The registry ensures that all modules:
- Follow a consistent naming and definition convention
- Are version-controlled and license-aligned
- Contain metadata, provenance, and FAIR-compliant documentation
- Are cross-linked via metam:isPartOfModule and metam:isRefinementOf relations
The Modules Registry functions as the integration backbone of the MMO modular system. Each module contributes to a semantic network of interoperable ontologies. Modules are developed independently but validated and registered through the central registry to ensure structural and logical coherence.
The registry currently includes:
| Module | Focus Domain | Status | Link |
|---|---|---|---|
| ACESO | Healing processes and recovery trajectories | β Stable | v1.0.0 |
| AWARE | Awareness, cognition, mental state dynamics | β Stable | v1.0.0 |
| GO | Gene Ontology integration and molecular processes | β Stable | v1.0.0 |
| HiTOP | Dimensional psychopathology | β Stable | v1.0.0 |
| ICD-10 | Diagnostic classification | β Stable | v1.0.0 |
| ISO 37120 | Urban sustainability and quality-of-life indicators | β Stable | v1.0.0 |
| LOINC | Laboratory and observation codes | β Stable | v1.0.0 |
| SNOMED CT | Clinical findings and procedures | β Stable | v1.0.0 |
| SOHO | Social determinants of health | β Stable | v1.0.0 |
| UMLS | Terminology mapping and semantic alignment | β Stable | v1.0.0 |
Each registered module:
- Inherits from CDF intermediary classes
- Implements BFO-compliant upper ontology alignment
- Applies the Two-Part Definition Rule (genus + differentia)
- Is documented with rdfs:comment, metam:isPartOfModule, and rdfs:isDefinedBy
- Is validated against the MMO architectural constraints
- This ensures semantic coherence, traceability, and modular extensibility across all domains
All registered modules are:
β
RDF/XML (OWL) syntax-validated
β
FAIR-compliant (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable)
β
Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0)
β
Mapped through persistent URIs (PURLs) for long-term access
Registry validation ensures that each ontology module is logically consistent and interoperable within the broader MMO network.
