TypeScript project is wonderful and something the whole JavaScript community benefits tremendously from. Unfortunately, the current official discussion channel, Stack Overflow, does not do it proper justice.
Stack Overflow is a good place for small focused questions. But in the case of TypeScript questions, you often want to hear different angles to solutions. Many times the answer is "it depends" and warrants further discussion. For this kind of dialogue Stack Overflow is not adequate and the moderators over there make it very clear by their actions.
Gitter chat, on the other hand, is useful but it is not very searchable. Instead, something organized around discussion threads would be more suitable.
Could Stack Overflow be complemented with a dedicated TypeScript forum?
(Yes anybody could start one, but the best changes for something like this to succeed is if the initiative comes directly from the project.)
PS. It's sad to see the last message on CodePlex deals with exactly the same topic. http://typescript.codeplex.com/discussions/645941
Possible solutions, open for discussion
- Google Groups
- dedicated forum software (Discourse, etc.)
- revive CodePlex
- Reddit
